Jerry Terry Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 20, 2025.
Jerry Lee Terry II, 62, of Kansas City, Missouri, our beloved father was taken from us on June 12th, 2025. Though his life was taken too soon, the love he gave, joy he spread and memories we shared will be held dearly forever. We know that Jerry Lee is now held in the arms of a loving God, who knew his heart and has welcomed him home.

Jerry Lee was born on January 9th, 1963, in Tulia, Texas, to Janet Traweek Wright and Jerry Terry. He grew up in Amarillo, Texas, attending Tascosa High School, later moving to Fort Worth before eventually finding his way down to the city he loved, Austin, Texas.

Jerry was a strong character, a jokester bringing laughter to every room. He loved to have a good time, always singing and ready to get the dance party started, whether it was in the living room or the dance floors at his daughters weddings. The outdoors brought him peace and he found joy in spending time out in nature. Above all he was an immensely proud father, loudly, and sometimes embarrassingly cheering his daughters on from the sidelines. He spent time taking his girls on daddy-daughter dates and on weekend camping trips. Though he had pranks and jokes for any occasion, he never let a moment pass without his daughters knowing they were deeply loved.

For many years, Jerry owned and operated Landscaping Texas in Austin. Through his artful design and his dedication he added immense beauty to the city. His clients appreciated not only the quality of his work but also the care he brought to every relationship.

Jerry was the loving father of five daughters - Megan (Mulder) VanDenBergh, Emily (Alex) Mihou, Whitney (Robert) Ballard, Christy Terry, and Abigail Terry. He took immense pride in the strong, accomplished women they have become. He shared these daughters with his former wife, Nancy Terry, who remained a caring presence in his life. In the past year, his joy grew deeper as he became a grandfather to two grandsons: Levi, son of Megan, and Ryker, son of Whitney. He was overjoyed meeting them shortly before his passing.

Jerry Lee loved his mother, sisters and brother deeply. He is survived by his mother Janet Wright, sisters Jacki Quinto (Jerry) and Julie Brown (Shaun), brother Mark Shuman, his five daughters, his two grandsons, and many extended family members and friends who will forever cherish the memory of his smile and the laughter he brought to every occasion. He was preceded in death by his father and his beloved sister, Jana Brewster.

Jerry Lee will be remembered for his fun spirit and his deep love for family. His legacy will be the lasting love that will remain in the hearts of those who knew him.

A memorial service and visitation will be held at the Family Life Center, First Baptist Church, 1208 S Tyler St, Amarillo, on Saturday, June 28th, at 12:00pm.

I worked with Jerry at Geodis and although he was pretty quiet for the most part, he was a nice guy. Gone too soon...my condolences to his family.

In his time here in Kansas City, Jerry was known to some of us at Uplift. He came to our vans and stop locations.

We are heartbroken by this senseless loss.

Seeing these beautiful photos of Jerry with his family, especially his five daughters, brings both grief and gratitude. Please know that we mourn with you.

Jerry was not alone. He was seen, known, and cared for here in our community. May he rest in peace, and may your family be surrounded by comfort and love in the days ahead.

I don´t have any photos of Jerry himself to share, but I want to offer this photo of one of our Uplift volunteers talking with a neighbor at one of our regular stops. I share it so you can see the kind of care and presence Jerry experienced...a glimpse of the human connection he was part of here in Kansas City. He was not forgotten. He mattered.

My summers were filled with being at the Terry house in Pflugerville. Jerry and Nancy opened their home to so many girls. Jerry always did father daughter camp outs with them and even let me tag along one time! Forever grateful for memories and so heartbreaking that he was taken so soon.
