Jerry Russell Wine, 85, died unexpectedly at his home on May 16.
Jerry and his late wife Alice moved to Wilmington in 25 years ago after he retired from GM. They enjoyed music, nightlife and downtown Wilmington until Alice passed.
After that time, Jerry continued in his love of Wilmington, particularly the downtown area. He was seen at many concerts, plays and other cultural events. He was on the board of The Thalian Center for the Performing Arts for over 20 years. His support included the beautiful chandelier in the Thalian auditorium which he donated in honor of his late wife. Before any performance, audiences could hear, “Let’s raise Alice before we enjoy the event.”
Jerry loved Wilmington and often commented on what a very special place the city was and how he loved life there. He made friends at every event and was an ambassador for the city and the Hall. He was also active in Residents of Old Wilmington and DREAMS of Wilmington.
He was preceded in death by his wife and daughter Krystal. He is survived by his children Stacey and Craig Wine.
There will be a private service at Oleander Memorial Gardens
Donations in his memory can be made to the Thalian Center for the Performing Arts:

I am just finding out about this and I am at once shocked and deeply saddened by the news. Jerry was a part of family at Wilmington Wine and we have countless memories of him, with him. My heart goes out to the his family, filled with love and condolences. May he rest in eternal peace.
