Jiri Gabera Obituary
Jiri Gabera, 75 of Las Vegas, died suddenly on February 23 at Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas. Jiri was born in Czechslovakia January 16, 1939 to his parents Vojtech Gabera and Milada Psenicka. Jiri was married to his beloved wife Pavla Zapalac June 7, 1962 who spent the next 52 years until his passing as his wife. He was an accomplished business owner and Olympic Ski Coach prior to his retirement and has been featured in photos and mentions in the Canadian Ski Museum Hall of Fame. Jiri is survived by his beloved wife, his children, and his extended family of friends and acquaintances; he will be truly missed by all who knew him. Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 8, from 2-4pm at Palm Mortuary – Eastern, 7600 South Eastern Avenue, Las Vegas, NV 89123. Arrangements under the direction of Palm Mortuary.

Dear Paula and family,
we received the sad news during our trip in southwest Mexico. First we could not believe it, but then we received your second email confirming it. Our thoughts went back all the way to Ottawa where about 40 years ago we met as new immigrants from Czechoslovakia. We have very fond memories of those times spent together there. So, it saddens us very much to see that Jiri, the one of us, passed away. Paula, please, accept our deepest sympathy. Our hearts are with you in this sad and difficult time.

Dear Paula and Family,
We were shocked and saddened to learn of Jiri's passing. We thought of Jiri often when we watched the cross country skiing events in the recent winter Olympics. It was hard to believe that such a robust man could pass from our presence. We will miss seeing him puttering around your cottage and going for your rides around the lake. I am so sorry for this tragic loss to you all. I am sorry I could not attend the services!
He was a good man and gone to soon, he will be missed greatly by many. I thought often of him while skiing , riding, so many good times that we had doing those things. Not to mention getting to run into the both of you at the ski shows, was always a wonderful treat.
