Jo Ellen Shaw passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Saturday, November 11 at the age of 87. She will be long and lovingly remembered by her husband of 67 years, Richard (Dick) Shaw; her daughter, Rebecca (Becky) Shaw; her son-in-law, Andrew Wreggitt; her granddaughter, Cayley Jane Wreggitt; her sister, Virginia Milner Ross; Richard's brothers, Tommy and Billy Shaw; and their families. Jo Ellen was born and raised in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma by her parents, Noda Marie and Mancel Pope Milner. She met her husband, Richard, at Classen High School and married him soon after her twentieth birthday in 1950. In 1968, Jo Ellen, Richard and their daughter Becky moved to Calgary, Alberta, where she enthusiastically learned to live in the snow! In Calgary, she volunteered for a number of organizations, including the Glenbow art docents, the Allied Arts Centre, the 1988 Calgary Olympics, and Calgary South Rotary Partners (serving as President in 1993/94). In 1982 she and her husband, Richard, formed Glenview Stables Ltd., a thoroughbred horse breeding and racing operation, and they won a number of awards, including Canadian Thoroughbred Breeder of the Year. Also, two of their horses were named Canadian Champions of the Year. Jo Ellen and Richard enjoyed exploring the world together and with their friends and they had many grand adventures in far away places. Jo Ellen's greatest pleasure was her family and friends and she enjoyed hosting them in Calgary as well as in their second home in Scottsdale, AZ. A Celebration of Jo Ellen's life will be held at Eden Brook on Wednesday, November 29, at 2:00 p.m. with a reception to follow.
