Joan Marie Carlin

Joan Marie Carlin, age 73, of Troy, passed away peacefully with her sister by her side, on Thursday, February, 27, 2025 in Royal Oak, Michigan. The beloved daughter of James F. and Virginia C. Carlin, Joan was born on February 26, 1952 in Oak Park, Illinois. Joan attended Lawrence University in Appleton Wisconsin, and graduated from the University of Illinois Champaign Urbana. Joan retired from General Motors where she enjoyed a career that included work assignments in Europe and China. Joan loved travel, art and literature and was known for her insight, keen wit and pursuit of knowledge.

Those who spent time with Joan her last four years of life will forever be impressed by her extraordinary strength and courage as she met the challenge of a long, difficult illness. Joan's family is especially thankful to Dr. Sudha Purohit, and the Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak Hospice doctors and caregivers for their compassion and consideration. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, and aunts and uncles. Joan is survived and missed by her brother James, sister Sharon, her cousins Michael, Rosemary, Kevin and Margaret, godson Jesse and his brother Alex, and many friends. Thank you to all for your thoughts and prayers. A private ceremony to scatter Joan's ashes will be held later this year in Marco Island, Florida.
