Joan passed from this life on August 26, 2022. She was born on September 2, 1935 to Berta Glass Duncan and Lillard Aubrey Duncan in Mt. Pleasant, Texas. She was a faithful Christian, worshiping with the Indiana Avenue church of Christ in Lubbock, Texas for many years. In her earlier years she was very active in the Caprock church of Christ teaching numerous Sunday school classes until its closing in 2008. She graduated as Valedictorian from Lubbock High School in 1952 at the age of 16. She then graduated from Draughon's Business College and began a career at J.E. Murfee and Son Insurance in Lubbock that lasted an impressive 65 years. She married the love of her life, Harold Glenn Carnes on June 12, 1954 and was married to him at the time of his death in 2013.

Joan is survived by her only daughter Patti Carnes Roberson and her fianc? Tom Dwyer of Cozumel, Mexico; two brothers-in-law, Bobby Mayfield and Bob Carnes; two sisters-in-law, Jo Adams and Nannette Oswalt as well as her numerous nieces and nephews who adore her and she them!! She is preceded in death by her husband Harold, her parents and all seven of her siblings and their spouses.

Joan was fiercely loyal to her family, her career and her church! In addition to her biological family, she had a work family like no other!! The Murfee family treated her like a part of their own for 65 years. She was hired by J.L. Murfee Sr. at the age of 18 and "grew up" in the business with his son, Bill Sr. and wife Dolores. They all studied for and took their various insurance licensing exams together. The legacy continued when two of Bill Sr.'s sons, Lance and Bill Jr. chose to join in the family business. She loved and is loved by them to this day.
