Joan Irwin Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 24, 2025.
Joan Musick Irwin passed away on May 16th, 2025, surrounded by her family at Paoli Hospital. She was born April 5th, 1939, to Roy A. Musick and Florence A. Evans. Joan grew up in East Orange, New Jersey. She attended Centenary College, receiving an associate degree in office administration.

Joan would say that her life really started when she met her husband of 65 years, George M. Irwin. He was the love of her life, and she was best known to friends and family for her dedication to George and to her family and friends. Joan loved the Lord and was happy to share her belief in a life everlasting. She is now at peace in heaven with her beloved husband George, who passed away one month earlier on April 16th, 2025.

Joan and George spent their early years of marriage raising their two daughters, Karen and Linda, in Willingboro, New Jersey and then in Chester Springs, Pennsylvania. Joan worked in several medical practices during those years as an office administrator. But Joan's favorite work was that of a homemaker. She loved her family and her home, and tended to both as if they were her garden. She took pride in being George's wife and Karen and Linda's mom.

Joan enjoyed summer vacations in Canada and trips to Disney World with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling to many destinations with George during their retirement years. But even when she traveled, her heart was always at home and with her family and friends.

Joan's interests included reading and playing cards. She was a lover of books and enjoyed spending time in her sunroom reading and chatting with George. She loved sharing books with others, and talking about books that she had enjoyed. She was a fierce opponent when playing double solitaire, and enjoyed playing various card games with others throughout her life. She was not a golfer, but she enjoyed sharing George's passion for golf by watching many hours of golf on TV together with him. She enjoyed keeping in touch with her family and friends, writing and sending many e-mails and cards and making many phone calls to be a good friend to all.

Joan and George spent their last couple of years together at Freedom Village Retirement Community. Together they enjoyed making new friends and finding several activities where Joan continued to surround herself with new friends who gave her much support during her last month without George.

Joan was mom to daughter Karen Hite and son-in-law Mark Hite. She was granmom to John Hite and Maggie Hite. Joan was mom to daughter Linda Johnson and son-in-law Eric Johnson. She was granmom (also known as G) to Rebecca Reid and husband Andy Reid, Sara Baginsky and husband Bret Baginsky, and Riley Johnson. She was also a loving great granmom to her four great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Friday June, 6, 2025 at 1:00pm at Royersford Baptist Church, 452 S. Lewis Rd. Royersford PA. Visitation and light refreshments will follow the service at the church. Interment will be private.

Donations in Joan's memory can be made to Friends of the Chester County Library, 450 Exton Square Parkway, Exton, PA 19341.

Karen and Linda, I´m so sorry for the loss of both your parents in such a short amount of time. It´s comforting to know that the Lord is in control & that we can trust Him in all things. I have good memories of both of them in their involvement with the Young Life committee for many years. Also, was able to renew our friendship when I started to attend Calvary Chapel after Bob went to be with Jesus. It was good to see them each week & get caught up with their family news. I pray that your memories of them will be a comfort & blessing as you grieve. Blessings to you, Maureen McCook

Karen, your Mother was such a positive and encouraging person - to your family, so clearly but also to all the other people she encountered. The memory of your parents lives on in the times we shared. In this sudden time of loss, our hearts feel you close.

We are thinking of you all as you grieve the loss of both parents in such rapid succession. Joan was one of the first people I met after moving to Freedom Village a year ago. We started chatting as we shared a bench outside the building, and soon afterwards she invited us to eat dinner with her and George. We could quickly see how deeply they cared for each other and empathized that they could not travel to George's family's cottage in Canada last summer due to his health issues. However, they just glowed as they described having gotten together recently with their family to play board games just as they would have done were they able to still vacation together in Canada. We clearly saw evidence of a very loving family, and I know you will treasure those memories.

Karen and Linda, I was so shocked and saddened to hear of your mother´s sudden passing. I have such fond memories of both your parents. I know that the beauty of their hearts lives on in both of you, and in all of your children and grandchildren. May you find joy in all their smiles during this very difficult time. Both of you, and Aunt Joanie and Uncle George, are in my thoughts and prayers. I am so sorry for your loss.

Dear Karen, Linda and families,
Your description of your mom, Joan, is exactly what I remember ... so devoted to her husband and her children. Tending a garden is the perfect metaphor. Her love for you all is woven into the fabric of who you are and how you love so many others. What a gift she and George have given you.
Joan and George were sweet neighbors to my Dad at Freedom Village and we will all now miss visiting.
I am praying comfort and strength for you in these days. You will see them again.

So sorry for the loss of your mother, Karen. I am holding her in my thoughts and will be thinking of her on June 6. I will be in California but will be there in spirit.
