GREENSBORO — Joan Rita Regan passed away on Tuesday, September 27 after a brief fight with lymphoma. She was surrounded by family during her last few hours.
Born to Tom and Peg McLaughlin on September 23, 1954, Joan grew up in Upper Moreland Township in Pennsylvania. She was an active member and captain of the Color Guard at Archbishop Wood High School. She then went on to earn her degree in education from East Stroudsburg University. In 1979, she married the love of her life, Joe Regan, and raised three children with him. Joan spent most of her life dedicated to teaching, taking time off after her children were born. Most recently, Joan began her sixteenth year teaching fifth grade at Our Lady of Grace Catholic School in Greensboro.
Joan was an excellent teacher and a loving mother, wife, sister, daughter, and grandmother. She is survived by her partner and husband of 32 years, Joe; her children, Kelly, Joe, and Katie; her mother and father; her sisters, Kathy and Nancy; and her grandchildren, Nathan and Valerie.
A memorial service will be held for her on Monday, October 3 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Church, followed by a celebration of her life at Saint Paul the Apostle Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or the Autism Society of North Carolina.

I was at OLG this week after moving away for a few years and said a prayer for her and her family, who must miss her so dearly. She was a wonderful teacher and valued person in our lives. God bless.

Audrey, Ginny and I loved to visit the McLaughlins when we were growing up. It was such a special time - every time we got together. Our special games and favorite things to do when we were sent to the basement after dinner so the adults could talk. Wonderfully warm memories are in all of our hearts. My Mom would say the same if she could remember, I'm sure. You have a wonderful family and we cherish you all. We send love and hugs.
All our love, Marge Calafato and Marge Seng

Each precious life creates a ripple. The effect of Joan's life will wash up onto distant shores for generations. As a wonderful and caring teacher, she has touched so many in ways she is only beginning to learn about from her new vantage point! She shared her faith in action and word. Our condolences to her family. Words won't touch the hurt, but her love will span the time and distance that separate you now. She will be missed by all.
Wishing you Christ's peace.

I attended Archbishop Wood High School with Joan, and was in the Color Guard with her. I was shocked and saddened to hear that she had passed away. She was a very nice person, and I only have good memories of her. I remember also her family, her parents were very involved in the Wood band front. My deepest sympathy goes out to her parents, sisters, husband and children. May she rest in peace, Amen.

My thoughts and prayers are with you as you mourn Joan's passing. I feel truly blessed that she was a part of my life. She had such a respect for and love of her family and all children. She was a wonderful teacher and an example to her peers. Joan will be missed but her influence will live on in all the good she accomplished in her family, friends and students.

To the Regan family ... My thoughts and sincere prayers are with you all, as you mourn and celebrate Joan's wonderful life. She is a person that will be remembered forever, and especially by the countless families and children she touched in her career. Teachers are role models and Joan was blessed to be one of the very best. I know we are all hurting with you, knowing that unbelievably she is gone. But the deep faith she always displayed comforts me, knowing that she is a strong Guardian Angel watching over us all. May your memories of Joan be as consoling to you as they are to all of us, her friends ... she will forever be missed.
