DeSTEFANO
JOCQUELINE (McDONALD)
Age 79, of Gibsonia, on Monday, September 17, 2012. Born on February 12, 1933 in Homewood, she was the daughter of the late Maurice and Catherine (Regan) McDonald; wife of Ralph T. DeStefano of Gibsonia; loving mother of Ralph M. DeStefano of Gibsonia and Julie Hera DeStefano of New York; sister of Maureen Hamilton (Jerry); and sister-in-law of Ann McDonald, and the late Patricia McFall, Maurice (Winona) McDonald, and Lawrence McDonald. Family will welcome friends Thursday and Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at SCHELLHAAS FUNERAL HOME, LTD., 5864 Heckert Road, Bakerstown, 15007. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in St. Catherine of Sweden Church with Fr. Michael McDermott, celebrant. Interment will follow in Mt. Royal Cemetery, Glenshaw. Jocqueline began her career as a Registered Nurse working with Visiting Nurses Association throughout the Hill District, then established and headed the Home Care department at Sewickley Valley Hospital and ultimately was their Home Health Education Coordinator and Legislative Liaison. She also instituted the first hospital-based Meals on Wheels program in Pittsburgh. She spent 16 years on the Pine-Richland School Board, serving multiple terms as President, including during the design and construction of the new High School. She also served 12 years on the Allegheny Intermediate Unit School Board, helped establish the Community Council and first Pine-Richland Community Day. She was recipient of the La Roche College Distinguished Alumni Award in 1985 and the Distinguished Alumni Award for Community Service in 1996. Jocqueline was a longtime parishioner of St. Catherine of Sweden Parish where she taught CCD and served with the bereavement ministry. Although her professional achievements are numerous, Jockey's biggest legacy is the incredible impact she had on her family and all who knew her. She was a loving, funny, compassionate, supportive and vibrant woman. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the focus of her latest attention, the not-for-profit Journey to Normal Inc., 420 Duke Ct., Gibsonia, PA 15044, journeytonormal.org. I had the pleasure of being at Jocqueline funeral when towards the end of the Funeral Mass at St Catherines something happen that hard to explain. It only happened for a few minsters just for her. For those few minates a ray of light came into the church and shined only on Jocqueline casket and the cloth that covered it with reverence only to leave when the serviced ended. It was Gods way of escorting her to heaven, personally!

Ralph, my thought and prayers go out to you and your children. Although I haven't seen you or Jockey in years, I remember the early years when our kids were young and we would get together. They were fun times. Good memories will get you through the sad times.

To laugh often and love much; to win the respect of intelligent persons and the affection of children; to earn the approbation of honest citizens and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to give of one's self; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to have played and laughed with enthusiasm and sung with exultation; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived—this is to have succeeded. - Author Unknown

Dearest Jockey, You lived and loved and brought joy to every encounter...You have succeeded, brave lady! Rest peacefully in the Lord's Garden. Young Ralph, I am thinking of you, and so sorry. Bless you!
