Jody Montgomery Obituary
The funeral service for Jody "Jod" Ann Montgomery will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday, November 18, 2003, at First Baptist Church, Albert Lea, MN. The Reverend Clayton Balsley will officiate. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 PM Monday at Bonnerup Funeral Service and one hour before the service at the church.
Jody died on Thursday, November 13, 2003, at Albert Lea Medical Center. She was 36 years old.
Jody was born in Albert Lea, MN on August 7, 1967, the daughter of Emery and Joyce Irene (Freemyer) Bowman. She was baptized and confirmed at First Baptist Church in Albert Lea. She attended Lakeview Elementary, Brookside Middle School, and was a 1985 graduate of Albert Lea High School. She received her AA degree from Austin Community College in 1987 and also attended Rochester Community College and Mankato State College. During her school years Jody had worked at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, St. John's Lutheran Nursing Home and at the Albert Lea YMCA.
On May 5, 1990, Jody was united in marriage with David Montgomery in Grace Lutheran Church, Albert Lea, MN. During their marriage they had lived in El Paso, TX, Ft. Richardson, Alaska, Ft. Hood, TX;, Schweinfurt, Germany, Virginia Beach, VA, Ft. Wainwright, Alaska and Albert Lea, MN. Jody had worked as a teaching assistant and tutor in Fairbanks Northstar Borough for one year, and as an Education Technician with the United States Army Youth and Family Division, at Ft. Hood, TX, Ft. Richardson, Alaska, and Schweinfurt, Germany.
Jody enjoyed crafts, camping with her family; watching Evan and Ryan play baseball and enjoyed volksmarches with her family and friends. Her time spent with her family was precious to her.
Jody is survived by her husband, David Montgomery of Albert Lea, MN; two sons: Ryan and Evan Montgomery of Albert Lea, MN; mother, Joyce Irene Bowman of Albert Lea, MN; one sister, Renee (John) Retzlaff of New Ulm, MN; one brother, Jeff (Judy) Bowman of Albert Lea, MN; niece and nephews: Justin and Nathan Retzlaff of New Ulm, MN and Jared and Jenna Bowman of Albert Lea, MN; grandmother, Mary "Ethyl" Freemyer of Albert Lea, MN; mother-in-law, Mary-Ellen Montgomery of San Diego, CA; father-in-law, Paul S. Montgomery; brother-in-law, John Montgomery of San Diego, CA; many cousins, aunts and uncles.
Jody was preceded in death by her father, Emery E. Bowman; grandfather, Leo B. Freemyer; grandparents, Lottie and Earnest Bowman.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, First Baptist Church or
Crossroads Community Hospice in Albert Lea.
