Joe Allen Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Mar. 21 to Mar. 23, 2023.
Joe A. Allen, 75 years of age and formerly of Woodleaf North Carolina went home to be with the Lord during the early morning hours of Saturday, March 18th. He was surrounded by his family who loved and adored him. He was a man centered around his family and Faith in Christ.

Joe was born in Spruce Pine NC on Christmas Eve of 1947. He was the youngest of ten siblings. Joe married his mountain girl, high school sweetheart, Kay Wilkie Allen on May 27th 1967. Last May they celebrated fifty-five years of marriage. Joe served in the United States Army, and shortly after, he and Kay made their home in Woodleaf North Carolina where they raised their two children, Travis Allen of Mount Ulla North Carolina, and Amy Allen of Ashland Oregon. Joe also has five grandchildren whom he loved dearly. They are Kaitlyn White of Concord North Carolina, Avery Allen, Bradley Allen, and Wesley Allen all of Mount Ulla, along with Lelia Allen of Ashland Oregon. Michelle Allen (wife of Travis Allen) was also loved as a daughter in-law.

Joe worked in the construction field as an electrician and carpenter. He eventually became a Construction Project Foreman and Assistant Site Superintendent for Becon Construction at the former Fiber Industries/Celanese Plant on Hwy 70 in Western Rowan County. Joe was a master craftsman and could fix or build just about anything.

While living in Rowan County, Joe was a church bus driver, a deacon, and the Men's Sunday School Class teacher at Gospel Light Baptist Church. Upon retirement, Joe and Kay moved to the North Carolina Coast near the Southport area where Joe enjoyed his passion of fishing. He soon earned the family nickname of "Flounder Man."

This past summer Joe and Kay began a new adventure by returning to the mountains but this time in the Dandridge Tennessee area on Lake Douglas. Joe and Kay personally remodeled a neglected house and over the last 8 months, mostly by themselves turned it into a beautiful home. Even at 75 years of age, Joe could work and build with great skill.

A Celebration of Life service for our beloved, husband, father and grandfather, Joseph Augustus Allen will be held on Saturday, the 25th of March at Central Baptist Church in Kannapolis. Visitation with the family will begin at 1pm with the Celebration starting at 2pm. The service will be directed by Joe Allen's son, Travis Allen, his niece, the Reverend Natalie Gray and Rock of Ages Missionary Rick Hildebrand.

We love you Joe and miss you so much.

Kay, Joe will be missed by Ronnie and myself. Ronnie always enjoyed his Sunday School lessons. I remember Joe talking with our son during a difficult time and it made an impact on Chad. Prayers for you and your family during this difficult time.

Kay, We enjoyed the few times we spent together getting to know you and Joe. We had a nice meal at Jerome“s that one time, will never forget that! May the Lord wrap his arms around you during this time of grief. Please know that you are loved and thought of.
