Joe Carter Cook, age 82, of Springfield passed away Friday March 11, 2011 at Sumner Regional Medical Center. A combined Celebration of Life for Nancy and Joe Carter Cook was held on Monday, March 14th at 2:00 pm at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with Dr. Bill Owens officiating. This is the church where Nancy and Joe Carter were married on April 16, 1950. Their grandchildren served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were the Masonic Western Star Lodge #9 and Eastern Star Joseph W. Burns Chapter #346. Interment followed in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Mr. Cook was born May 2, 1928 in Springfield, to the late Charles Wesley and Geneva Armstong Cook. He was an avid Ham Radio operator with the call sign KA5KDB, and was a painter and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He worked 17 years at Goddard & Goddard Company, Springfield, 9 years Valeron Corporation, College City, Arkansas and was owner of the Montgomery Ward Store, Springfield and later worked with Wal-Mart. Mr. Cook had resided the last two years at Sterling House Assisted Living, Goodlettsville. He was a member of First Baptist Church Pocahontas Arkansas, Western Star Lodge #9, and past president of the Pocahontas Lions Club. He was preceded in death two days by his wife Nancy Clayton Cook. He was survived by his children; Connie June (William) Cloinger, Pocahontas, Arkansas, Theresa Cook (Jim) Allan, Hartsville, TN., Ricky (Becky) Cook, Springfield, TN, Johnnie Wesley Cook of Pflugerville, Texas, and Joe Carter Cook, Jr. (Judene) of Steens, Mississippi. Grandchildren; Megan Allan (Ben) Zoeller, Nashville, Laurie Cook (Javier) Garzon, Brentwood, Kevin Cloinger (Carmen) U.S. Navy, Oak Harbor, Washington, Matt Allan, Hartsville, Kyle Cook, Nashville, Katrina Cloinger, Pocahontas, Arkansas and Ryann Cook, Elise Cook both of Steens, Miss. Great Grandchildren; Elizabeth Cook, Ashton Garzon, Alexander Zoeller, and Sebastian Garzon, brothers; David L. Cook, Camden, South Carolina and Howard R. Cook, Louisville, Kentucky. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mt Carmel Cemetery Fund or Sumner Hospice. All donations can be sent c/o Robertson County Funeral Home
