Joe McIntier Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 9, 2024.
On September 5th, 2024, Joe "Darin" McIntier, aged 59 years, completed his earthly journey and set sail on his final adventure. Born on January 14, 1965, Darin was a spirited soul known for his steady presence, unending compassion, and a questionable amount of dad jokes.

Darin enlisted in the Navy and served as a medic with the Marine Corps, embodying the values of dedication and courage. He was a true Shellback, a sailor's sailor, whose anchor was as firm as his commitment to service. After his nautical days, he docked at A&M Commerce and snagged a Bachelor's in Computer Science, having first netted the heart of his lovely wife, Jennifer McIntier née Carmen at Collin College, before venturing into the realm of cybersecurity and starting a long and respected career in Information Security Management. His thirst for knowledge was as vast as the ocean, leading him to Penn State to claim a Master's degree and later, the helm as a professor of Homeland Security-educating the next generation of cyber sailors.

Darin lived a life characterized by honor, generosity, and an appreciation of life's simple pleasures. His curiosity and verve for life constantly led him to new pastimes, and his hobbies were as eclectic and vibrant as his personality, ranging from operating HAM Radio and reflecting on the universe and its stars, to the culinary art of preparing the perfect brisket, and indulging in his (not-so) guilty pleasure of Amazon shopping.

Darin's personal life was rich with love and laughter, shared with his wife and their two children, Sean and Erin. He also leaves behind a loving ensemble of parents, siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear relatives and friends.

A memorial service to celebrate Darin's life will be held at 1500 hours, and a visitation with the family beforehand at 1430 hours, on September 11th, 2024, at the First Presbyterian Church in Plano, TX, located at 1500 Jupiter Rd. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Flags for Fallen Veterans (flagsforvallenvets.com) in his honor. A reception is to follow, where friends, family, and associates are invited to share memories in honor of Darin, and to celebrate a life well-lived and a man deeply loved.

What I remember most about working with Darin was his positive attitude, his willingness to help, and sense of humor. He will be missed.

I worked with Darin as a partner. He always had the best backgrounds on his computer I specifically remember all the castle ones and the jokes we would make. He was always kind and eager to help. He treated everyone around him with kindness and respect. He was a serious light and one of a kind.

Darin enjoyed being fun-loving and zany but underneath he was purposeful, deliberate, well-reasoned, principled, honorable, compassionate, and dedicated. My life is richer for having known Darin and I will miss him.

Darin was the one who gave me my first opportunity in the field of application security, believing in me despite my lack of experience. He became not only my manager but also my mentor and friend. His kindness, patience, and encouragement were unwavering. I was continually amazed by his vast knowledge and his passion for teaching. Whenever I had a question, he would enter "teaching mode," as he called it, always eager to share his wisdom. I will forever remember him as a truly beautiful soul.

Darin gave me the understanding that if it could be done, I could do it...I was in awe of computers and he told me it was possible to build one. My reality changed that day. But the best memory is knowing he is my big brother.

My first memory was when I went with Jennifer to see him. He was playing football with his friends. I immediately liked him. Him and his friends were so fun! I also remember his friends "kidnapping" him and putting him in the back of a truck in the bed for his bachelor party lol. I was like what in the world is going on lol!
