Joe Dow "Moon" Mullins, 87, of McAlester, died Tuesday, March 30, 2010, in Muskogee.The family will receive visitors from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Bishop Funeral Service.Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bishop Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Fred Morrison and his cousin, the Rev. A.L. Mullins, officiating. Burial will be at Shady Grove Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by Choctaw Nation Honor Guard. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.Born July 20, 1922, in Citra, he was the son of Celdon Russell and Lula (Martin) Mullins. He attended Haywood Schools.He served in the United States Army during World War II and participated in the Battle of the Bulge.He married Ruth Wellington on June 19, 1947, in Fort Smith, Ark. He retired from the U.S. Army Ammunition Plant as a heavy equipment operator for roads and grounds in 1978.He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, member of the Masonic Lodge and a member of North Town Church of Christ.He enjoyed playing dominoes and was active at the J.I. Stipe Senior Citizens Center. He also worked as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.Survivors include sons, Jim Mullins and wife, Sue, of McAlester, and Jerry Mullins and wife, Jeanette, of McAlester; daughter, Lumae Sennett and husband, Jerry, Parker, Ariz.Also, grandchildren, Stephanie, Steven, Staci and Sam Welsh, Jerry Jr. and Nita, Misty, Monica and Kevin, Brandin, Amber, Gerald, Lavena, Erika and Joel.And, great-grandchildren, Michael, Shane, Megan, Andrew and Gabby, Landon, Logan, Jayden, Katie, Asa, Cythia, Sierra, Aubrey, Lane, Parker, Destiny, Tyler, Courtney and Clinton; great-great-grandchild, Hailey.And, sisters, Floy Gregg, Omak, Wash., and LouVeney Noble Brooks, of Okmulgee; special friend, Virginia LaRue, and numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.He was preceded in death by his parents, Celdon and Lula Mullins; his wife, Ruth Mullins; sister, Lucy Soumenin Beck, and great-grandson, Joshua Dow Koeninger.Pallbearers will be Jerry Don Mullins Jr., Brandin Short, Joel Sennett, Gerald Sennett, Jonathan Mullins, Stephen Garland, Kevin Bailey, Sam Welsh and Sam Henderson. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff LaRue, Ronnie LaRue, Kenneth LaRue and Jim Brooks.
