I had known Joel for most of my life growing up in Clarkstown and he was a real fixture her for many of us. He was always there to help whenever I needed help professionally at the Town and was a great father when I would see him at ball games or the kids events. My thoughts and prayers will be with Tammy, Max and Ava and the entire family.

I had the great honor of working with Joel and the Code enforcement office while I was over seeing the "Alternatives to Incarceration" program for the Rockland County Jail. Always putting the community first a priority that never took a backseat. It was through this collaboration that we "rescued" so many lost and forgotten cemeteries in Clarkstown, reclaimed parks and kept the un adopted roads cleaned from litter and debris.

I had the pleasure of working with Joel for a few years, although not directly. He would frequently stop into the cafeteria while I was eating my lunch, to grab himself a bag of M&M's from the vending machine. He was always cheerful, always kind, and always stopped to talk to you. I will greatly miss seeing his smiling face in the building, and his pick up truck driving around town.

As a fellow member of the graduating class of CHS 1970 I remember many special things about Joel. Having moved away after graduation I never had the privilege of knowing him closely in his adult endeavors. After reading from all of his family and friends it is good to know that he carried on in life as he started in high school. I send my love and thoughts to all of his family and friends. May his memories support you in this time of loss. Sincerely,

My heart is saddened. Although years have passed, there are many fond memories of high school and college years.
Joel kept in touch and had a true concern for others.
We all know that there is and always will be a beginning and an end to life. Of importance is how we live the precious time in between. Joel made us think and laugh.
In high school, he was one of the "smart kids" but was friends with everyone. His legacy will live on.

Our thoughts are with you guys. Growing up in Bardonia the Epstein family was a big part of my life. It seems there's not much of the old Bardonia as I remember it, but the Epstein homestead on Bardonia Road always brought back fond memories of those days gone by.
I'll always carry great memories of Joel, from a skinny little kid doing
cannenballs in the pool, crazy things he and my brother Joby did growing up,the "Grunt" card games and all the antics from them. But most of all I'll remember the sincere freindship of Joel.
He will be sorely missed.
