John S Barman

John S. Barman. We celebrate the life and grieve over the loss of John S. Barman of New York City. He died at home on November 17, 2022, after a two-year, valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in Manhattan, he grew up on Central Park West, attended Columbia Grammar & Preparatory School, and graduated from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He started his career at Est?e Lauder Company, and in 1989, launched his own interior design firm, John Barman, Inc. Over a 40-year career, he achieved success by working with a broad range of private clients on projects that were featured in every major design periodical. John was recognized as a leading designer by many design publications, including Architectural Digest's Top 100 Designers. Both a classicist and a modernist, he was renowned for injecting interiors with contemporary glamour and bold colors. With homes in New York City, Sagaponack, N.Y., and Miami Beach, Fla., he loved to experience travel and meet new people around the world. John is survived by his husband Kelly Stuart Graham, his sister Rosemary Orbach, her husband Steven Orbach, and niece Rachel Orbach.
