John Chaisson Obituary
October 20, 1972 - April 15, 2025
It is with deep sorrow that we share the news of John Chaisson's passing on April 15, 2025, at the age of 52, after a courageous four-year battle with Melanoma. He was surrounded by his loving family and friends who supported him throughout his journey.
John embraced life with enthusiasm and always pushed the boundaries in everything he did. Growing up in Dublin, Ohio, he formed lifelong friendships filled with cherished memories. He attended Florida State University and graduated from The Ohio State University in 1997.
John spent his adult years in the southeast, with the last decade in Jupiter, Florida, where he enjoyed daily views of the ocean and pursued his passion for boating and fishing. He made friends wherever he went, always sharing stories and adventures. His magnetic and occasionally mischievous personality captivated people, leaving them with memorable tales. Professionally, John focused on the mortgage and finance industries, most recently working with Freedom Mortgage.
He is survived by his loving family-parents, John "Jack" and Sherry Chaisson of New Albany, Ohio, sister Suzanne and Michael Walker, niece Grace Walker, nephew John "Jack" Walker; his beloved English bulldog Brisket; many aunts, uncles, and cousins; and countless friends who have become like family. Each of us will carry a piece of John in our hearts, remembering the way he laughed, loved, and lived with such authenticity and joy.
On Sunday, May 4th, 2025, John will be buried at sea followed by a Celebration of Life at Topside at the Beacon, 1107 Lighthouse Rd, Jupiter FL, 1 pm- 4 pm. All who knew and loved him are welcome to join us in honoring his memory. "Short pants" and sundresses requested as we will toast with beers and margaritas with a view of the boats and water- exactly as John requested.
We will also have a Celebration of Life in Ohio on Sunday, May 18, 2025, in his parents' community, Windsor Bridge, 4150 Windsor Bridge Place, New Albany, Ohio, from 2 pm to 5 pm for our Ohio friends.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating blood or money to the Red Cross Blood Donation. This will honor the 80+ individuals who donated blood for transfusions that John received during his 115 days in the hospital, extending his life.
Though he may be gone from our sight, he will never be gone from our hearts. Rest easy, dear son, brother, uncle and friend. You were deeply loved, and you will be missed beyond measure.

To know John is to love John. Having the pleasure of being one of John´s nurses for the duration of his hospital stay is one of my biggest honors. John has truly changed my life in so many unimaginable ways and I will forever be so grateful for all the funny memories, belly laughs, cries, and long nights we had together. I´m deeply saddened to hear about John's passing. It´s hard to believe someone we shared those early years with is gone. I´ll always remember his laugh, kindness, My heart goes out to his family, friends, and everyone who knew John. May he rest in peace.

It´s been years since we last caught up, but the memories of time spent with John have never faded. He was one of those rare people who brought energy, laughter, and a spark of adventure wherever he went. There was never a dull moment with him around-the kind of fun that sticks with you for life. I am so deeply saddened by this terrible news. I cant even pick a memory to share, because there were far too many in our nearly two decades of friendship. John, we had a good run at Natty Oak as you nicknamed it! A lot of laughs and discussion about "how to drink bourbon"...not with RC Cola!! We stayed in touch even when we both moved on. I moved to Tennessee and you helped me with a mortgage company & friend. We talked , texted and shared much throughout your illness. You kept a great, positive attitude I´m so deeply saddened that my friend is gone. I still hear your laugh tho. You´re in a better place now but We all miss you.....maybe even Tozz.

John showed up in Dublin with a cute English Bulldog named Sir Loin. John explained that Sir had been a rescue in an Atlanta, Georgia dog shelter and that he had to put in an application to adopt him. There were so many applications for dogs that are the breed for the mascot of the University of Georgia that John had to be interviewed as part of the shelter´s placement process. They decided John was the perfect match for Sir Loin.
John invented a game to play most evenings with Sir Loin. In the dark outdoors, John would shine a circle of light from his flashlight onto the pavement, and Sir would race to the circle to catch the light. As he got to the circle, John would shine it elsewhere, and Sir would race to its new location in an effort to hold it down with his weight. John said this game was an easy way to get in some exercise for Sir.
Sir had abandonment issues and had anxiety when in a kennel cage so he seldomly was left alone and was kenneled for as brief a time as necessary. Once, I dog sat while the Chaisson´s were downtown. I arrived to their home after dark. I didn´t want to stumble while looking for a light to turn on so I entered with a flashlight to let Sir out of the kennel cage. As Sir exited the cage, he went berserk and was racing everywhere and running into walls and furniture. I was in shock and frantically tried to find him and a light switch to turn on by using my flashlight, all the while thinking I had never seen a dog this crazy. I was close to panic, but when I turned on a light all his craziness suddenly stopped, and Sir came to me for some attention. When I told the Chaisson´s that Sir was Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, John laughed wholeheartedly as he explained Sir wasn´t wildly crazy; Sir was doing his part in playing John´s flashlight game with me. It didn´t matter to Sir that it was inside. Bumps and smashes into walls and furniture weren´t going to keep him from doing a proper job of catching those moving circles of light, not at all!
Sir´s company brought John a lot of enjoyment, but he also caused some worry such as when he ate an entire candy bowl of Sherry´s Hershey´s Kisses, including their silver foils! Caffeine is not allowed for dogs; it causes heart palpitations. It was goodbye to Hershey kisses in the Chaisson home!

John had many jobs as an adult: college student, insurance investigator, ski bum, beachcomber, mortgage lender, and the one that paid the least (the pay was zero) was that of being Santa Claus to Grace, Jack, Maren, James and Brant! Hmm, maybe this job listed as last was the highest paying one in terms of the awe he received from that very young audience of five. They were mesmerized as were the adults who were present, Sherry, Jack, Suzanne, Michael, Gloria, Bob, Joan, Jen, Matt, and Barb. "Ho-Ho-Ho," he boomed very convincingly as he swept in through the Walker´s front door!
