Collins Jr., John W. John W. Collins, Jr. went to be with his Lord on Sunday, August 14, 2011 following a long battle with cancer. During his 88 years on this earth he lived an active life that touched hundreds of people, through his Boy Scout leadership, career as an attorney and his membership at Cliff Temple Baptist Church. John was born to John W. Collins and Marijo King Collins of Midland, TX on July 5, 1922 and spent almost his entire life outdoors, working on the family's ranch or on the numerous Boy Scout expeditions he led. He was a Scoutmaster for Southwood Methodist Church in Dallas for more than 25 years and was awarded the Silver Beaver award in 1975 for his service to Scouting, and named a Century Club member in 1980 by the Circle Ten Council. He guided dozens of boys to the rank of Eagle Scout and was a certified NRA instructor for all shooting sports, including black powder. A graduate of Baylor Law School, John practiced law for 61 years and was a member of the Dallas Bar Association, the Texas Bar Association, the American Bar Association and was licensed to practice before the Tax Court and the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans. John was preceded in death by his son, John Anderson Collins, his father, John W. Collins, and his mother, Marijo King Collins. He leaves behind his loving wife of 66 years, Iva Aline Harral Collins of Dallas, TX, a daughter, Jo Aline Collins of Midland, TX and a sister Betty Riggs of S. Pasadena, CA. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, August 18, in the Bassett Chapel of Cliff Temple Baptist Church, at Sunset and Zang in Dallas, TX, with internment at the family plot in Midland, TX. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made in his honor to Cal Farley's Boy's Ranch, P.O. Box 1890, Amarillo, TX 79174, the Circle Ten Council of the Boy Scouts of America or to Cliff Temple Baptist Church, Dallas, TX 75208.
