John W. Czapla

John W. Czapla, 91 years old, died November 16, 2007 at Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence. He was born on July 31, 1916 in Niagara Falls, the son of the late George and Maryann (Filipowicz) Czapla.Mr. Czapla attended local schools. He was inducted into the United States Army on April 24, 1942 and was discharged on December 1, 1945 with the rank of Sergeant. He was awarded the American Service Medal, the European-African Middle Eastern Service Medal, the World War II Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. On July 13, 1946, he was married to the former Nellie Kasprzak at Holy Trinity Church.Mr. Czapla worked at Union Carbide for over 30 years in production, research and, finally, as a crane operator and retired in 1974. He was a member of the Union Carbide 25 Year Club, a Charter Member of the American Legion Portage Post #1465 and enjoyed hunting, fishing and reading. He was a Mr. Fix It at home. During the late 1930’s, he served as a Sergeant Medic with the Civilian Conservation Corps.Mr. Czapla is survived by his wife, Nellie (Kasprzak) Czapla and his children, James (Helen) Czapla of Grand Island, Maryanne (Paul) DelMonte of Largo, FL and Dorothy (John) White of Niagara Falls. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Christine Gan, Anthony White, Joanne White, Anna Zarples, Cynthia Czapla, Nicole, Dominic and Michael DelMonte. He was predeceased by his brothers, Stanley Czapla and Alexander Czapla and his sister, Stella Trenski.THERE IS NO PRIOR VISITATION. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday at 9:30 AM at Holy Trinity Church, 1419 Falls Street with Rev. Slawomir Siok officiating. PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Interment in Holy Trinity Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. Arrangements by the LABUDA FUNERAL HOME, INC. Mr. Czapla will be buried with Military Honors.
