John Deal Jr Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 13, 2025.
John Wallace Deal Jr. was born on June 1, 1952, in Denver, Colorado, to John and Virginia Deal. He grew up in Aurora, Colorado, alongside his brother, Rick, and graduated from Cherry Creek High School in 1971.

Following high school, John spent time in Europe before pursuing higher education at Mesa State, Regis University, and the University of Denver, where he studied computer science. His career led him to work as a computer programmer for IBM and Hercules Industries.

In 1982, John married Diane Sue Marston, embracing his role as a stepfather to Dana and Dion Hunt. In 1983, they welcomed their son, Christopher. Although their marriage eventually ended, John remained a devoted father, taking great pride in raising his children. His passion for music led him to become a local musician, performing alongside lifelong friends while balancing his career in the tech industry.

John was deeply committed to his recovery journey and dedicated nearly 30 years to Alcoholics Anonymous, offering encouragement and support to many along the way.

In 2004, he rekindled his connection with his high school sweetheart, Sherri, and they married, blending families with her children, Lisa and RJ. Together, they shared many cherished years until Sherri's passing in 2018.

John was a lifelong Denver Broncos fan and enjoyed sharing his passion for the team with his brother, Rick. He was also a devoted son who cared deeply for his mother, Virginia. As she grew older, he remained by her side, ensuring she was well cared for and supported. He often said that his mom was his hero, a reflection of the deep love and admiration he had for her.

John loved his children deeply and cherished his time with them. Being a grandfather was one of the greatest joys of his life. He found happiness in watching them grow, spoiling them with gifts, and creating special memories together.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Virginia Deal, and his beloved wife, Sherri and her son RJ. He is survived by his brother, Rick (Crystal) Deal of Virginia; his son, Christopher (Danae) Deal of Florida; first wife, Diane Deal of Denver, and his stepchildren, Dana (Erin) Hunt of Centennial, Dion Hunt (Dain) of Denver, and Lisa (John) Hedden of Virginia. He was a proud grandfather to Rileigh Duran; Hailey and Emily Deal; Natalie Hunt; Ronan and Anders Hunt; and Cole and Reagan Hedden.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. MST at the Church of Ascension in Denver, Colorado.

John's legacy of love, resilience, and devotion to family, music, and community will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

I met John because we knew his mother. He was devoted to her and spent much time at her home in Stoney Brook. I want to express my sympathy to Chris and his family. May the memories of time with your father live on, creating a lasting connection.
Chris, I met you when you would visit your grandmother and I remember how impressed I was was with the young man that you are.

John was my boss, my mentor; most importantly, he was my friend. Shalom John.... Until we meet again.
