John Dieffenbach Obituary

John L. Dieffenbach, 78, of Ulster RR 2, Pa., passed away Wednesday evening, July 30, 2008, at his home.

Born April 18, 1930 in Dushore, Pa., he was the son of the late John and Marjorie Elizabeth Dieffenbach.

On Dec. 13, 1952, John married the former Lorraine Marie Bay in Leitersburg, Md. He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 53 years on Oct. 3, 2005.

John served in the Marine Corps as a radioman during the Korean Conflict.

After serving his country, John was subsequently employed by a shoe factory in Hershey, Pa. He was later employed by the Ingersoll-Rand in Athens for 36 years until his retirement in 1992.

John enjoyed the outdoors, riding motorcycles his four wheeler and camping.

He is survived by: his children, Marjorie Johnston and her husband Keith Johnston of Sayre, Pa.; Glenn Dieffenbach and his fiancée, Joy Curry of Wysox, Pa., Donna Scrivens and her husband Ray Scrivens of Athens RR 2; grandchildren, Jesse Scrivens, Jeremy Scrivens, Cody Curry, Talon Curry, Desiree Dieffenbach, Charity Field, Andrea Amey, Kimberly Lattimer, Colleen Vanderpool; several great grandchildren; a niece, Bonnie Bardell of Carlisle, Pa.; and his faithful canine companion, Dakota.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen Bardell in July of 1983 and Jane Shrimp in October of 1987.

The funeral and committal service will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008, at the Bowen-Farr Funeral Home, 6 Gordon Farr St., Ulster, Pa., with Pastor Dale Bird of the Ulster Village Presbyterian Church officiating.

Interment will be private.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon at the funeral home.

The family suggests that memorial contributions may be directed to Ulster-Sheshequin Ambulance Association in care of Karen Bixby RR 1 Box 431 Ulster, PA 18850, in John L. Dieffenbach's memory.
