March 30, 1958 — June 3, 2009

John Ross Dishman, 51, of Crossville, passed away June 3, 2009. Graveside services were held June 6 at Green Acres Memory Gardens, with Bro. Danny Lee officiating.

Mr. Dishman was born March 30, 1958, in Cumberland County, the son of Clayton and Roxie Patton Dishman.

He served our grateful county for 31 years in law enforcement as a corporal with the Cumberland County Sheriff's Department and in earlier years, the Crossville City Police Department. He was also a member of West End Church of God in Pikeville. He has blessed us all with his talent and humor, having always been an important part of past Musical Moods performances. He spent many years as a sports announcer for Cumberland County High School and was also inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. He most recently announced for Stone Memorial High School. He was a wonderful son, husband, father and grandfather, brother and uncle. Everyone who knew John loved him. His laughter was hearty and his friendship was priceless. He will be greatly missed by all whose lives were touched by his love.

Survivors include his wife, Molly Upchurch Dishman of Crossville; mother, Roxie Dishman; sons and daughter-in-law, Erik and Crystal Dishman and Logan Dishman, all of Crossville; daughter, Allison Dishman and special friend Herb Goney of Crossville; brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie and Judy Dishman of Carrollton, GA; sisters and brothers-in-law, Margaret and Garland Wilson and Barbara and Marvin Campbell, all of Crossville; brother-in-law, Howard Upchurch of Pikeville; grandchildren, Ethan Goney, Macy Dishman and Cade and Beau Dishman; nieces and nephews, Dr. Anthony Wilson, Matthew Wilson and wife Rebecca, Jeremy Wilson, Jeffrey Dishman and wife Allison, Greg Dishman and wife Amber, Marci Varney and husband Craig, Michael Campbell, Emily Upchurch, Luke Upchurch and Chuck St. Clair; and several great-nieces and -nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clayton Dishman; father- and mother-in-law, Proctor and Jean Upchurch; and brother-in-law, Proctor Upchurch Jr.

Pallbearers were Ed Chandler, Wesley Jones, Phillip Turner, Erik Dishman, Phillips Myers, Wiley Potter and Howard Upchurch.

I often interacted with John while working in the emergency department at Cumberland Medical Center in the late 1990s. He had a great sense of humor and was very professional.
