Furness Funeral Home John Duncan's Celebration of Life gathering will be held on Sunday, July 24th at the Double Barrel Steakhouse; 106 Main St. Henry, SD 57243 from 1:00-4:00PM. John Duncan's family and friends will gather for food and live music by Weston Frank.

John Vincent Duncan was born on March 17th, 1958, in Yankton, SD to Lowell and Joanne (Johnson) Duncan. John, age 64, died suddenly at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD on July 8, 2022, surrounded by his loved ones. He grew up on a farm near the Yankton area then moved to Alcester, SD at a young age. He was raised on the family farm north of Alcester, attended school there, and graduated high school in 1976.

After high school John farmed and married Rhonda (Ryken) Duncan. They have 3 children Kent, Carl, and Karen. He and his family moved to Watertown, SD during the summer of 1992. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends hunting, riding go carts, fishing, trapping, tying lures, and being outdoors. With friends and family, he enjoyed his love for cooking, smoking meat, and socializing as the one and only Smokin' Johnny with a schluck of wine or a Coors Light. John was an avid fisherman and storyteller. His ultimate love was for duck hunting with his hunting dogs. John worked a variety of careers over his life in auctioneering, banking, selling seed, crop consulting, farming, cooking and having his own businesses. He also enjoyed frequent country cruises with loved ones and especially his dog Lucy.

John is survived by his three children Kent (Jill) Duncan, Carl Duncan, Karen (Duncan) Andrews; four grandchildren Andrew Duncan, Harlow Duncan, Madilynn Andrews, Waylon Andrews, several nieces and nephews, his girlfriend Rene Herke, former wife Rhonda Duncan, many other relatives, all his cronies, and Lucy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother David Duncan, and good friend Feathers (Kim Barthel). Details will be shared soon for John Duncan's celebration of life.
