Durrer Sr.
John Richard Durrer Sr., 72, of Ruckersville passed away August 7, 2008, at the University of Virginia Medical Center.
He was born December 29, 1935, in Albemarle County to the late Henry Richard Durrer and Meta Stuart Wood Durrer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Niceadaus Durrer Sr.
He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley "Jodee" Durrer; one son, John R. Durrer Jr. and his wife, Celia, also of Ruckers-ville; one daughter-in-law, Teresa Durrer; two sisters, Virginia Durrer of Ruckersville, Joyce Marie Rowe of Upper Marlboro, Maryland; three brothers, Lucian Durrer of Ruckersville, Raymond Durrer of Ruckers-ville and Edward Durrer and his wife, Doris of Barboursville; four grand-children; two great-grand-children; and many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
He was retired from B.M. Haney as a heavy equipment operator. He enjoyed hunting and gardening.
A funeral service was held 11 a.m. Monday, August 11, 2008, at the Ryan Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Greene County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 302, Stanardsville, Virginia 22973 or the Ruckersville Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 789, Ruckersville, Virginia 22968.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the University of Virginia Medical Center Neurology Department and the Palliative Care Unit for their support and care.
