John Elmore Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 20, 2025.
Austin - John David Elmore, a son, father, brother, uncle, and friend, returned to the Lord on May 19, 2025, peacefully from his bed in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - a place he loved and called home when he wasn't in Texas with his family.

Born June 14, 1959, in Lubbock, Texas to Oran Jr. and Hattie Stinchcomb Elmore, John lived a life guided by curiosity, intellect, and a spirit of adventure. With his large frame and even bigger sense of humor, John's presence commanded every room that was lucky enough to have him. He was full of energy, quick with a laugh, and had an unwavering loyalty to his daughters. John cherished his lifelong friendships, and his vibrant personality left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

John graduated from Monterey High School in Lubbock, Texas in 1977, and earned both his bachelor's degree in Accounting (1981) and Doctor of Jurisprudence (1984) from Texas Tech University. As a proud Red Raider, he began his legal career in West Texas before moving his family to Austin, where he continued to embrace his entrepreneurial spirit and built an admirable life filled with strong friendships and lasting memories.

He is survived by his beloved daughters, Griffin Elmore and Madison Elmore Shaunfield; his son-in-law, Mylan Shaunfield; and his cherished granddaughter, Nyla Wesley Shaunfield. He is also lovingly remembered by his niece, Breawna Loveless and her wife Bridget Farrell; his brother-in-law, Phil Mintz; and many other treasured family members and dear friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Oran Jr. and Hattie Stinchcomb Elmore; his sister, Nancy Elmore Loveless; and his grandparents, Oran Sr. and Iris Lowe Elmore, and Charles and Isabelle Morriset Stinchcomb.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025 at Onion Creek Club in Austin, Texas from 2-5p.m. (2510 Onion Creek Pkwy, Austin, TX 78747), followed by a family burial at Elmwood Cemetery in Abilene, Texas at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Camp John Marc. Your support is a thoughtful way to honor John's memory and offers comfort in knowing his legacy can help bring hope to others. Link to give: https://www.campjohnmarc.org/in-memory-of-john-elmore/
