John W. Elwell

John W. Elwell, aged 63, former owner of ElwellÕs Trash Service, in Bridgeton, died Saturday evening, March 7, 2009, with his family at his side at the Hospice Inpatient Unit, at the Bridgeton Health Center, in Bridgeton, where he had been admitted earlier in the day. Mr. Elwell was a resident of Bridgeton and had been sick since December.

He was born in Bridgeton and was the son of Dorothy (nee Newkirk) Elwell, of Bridgeton, and the late F. Wayne Elwell, who died in 1984. John was the husband of Ilga (nee Uzdanovics) Elwell. He lived at his current Bridgeton address for more than 30 years.

For several years, he owned and operated ElwellÕs Trash Service, in Bridgeton. He and his wife later owned EllÕs Liquors, in Salem, and, most recently, he was employed by Sheppard Bus Service, in Fairton, as a school bus driver.

John was a 1963 graduate of Bridgeton High School and after high school served for two years in the Peace Corps, in India. Several years ago, he served on the Hopewell Township Planning Board and was also a member of the former Bridgeton Stock Club. He also held memberships in several local clubs, including the Italian American Political Club and the 5th Ward AA. In addition, he was an enthusiastic baseball fan.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by one daughter, Lisa Elwell; one son, John F. Elwell; and one grandson, Martin Anthony Elwell-Anderson. He is also survived by one brother, Leonard C. Elwell and his wife, Bonnie, of Newark, Del.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend JohnÕs funeral service at the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., in Bridgeton, on Thursday afternoon, March 12, at 2 p.m.

Friends will be received at the funeral home Thursday afternoon from 12:30 until 2 p.m.

The burial will take place at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions are suggested in Mr. ElwellÕs memory to South Jersey Healthcare-HospiceCare, P.O. Box 160, Bridgeton, NJ 08302.

lived not far from john and family on west park dr. went all through school with lenny.john was agood person who we never so that much of.my wife, carol crisafulli,was in the class of 63 with john and we would see him at the reunions.god bless.
