John Gill Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Sep. 12 to Sep. 14, 2014.
Gill, John Amory 77 Feb. 21, 1937 Aug. 27, 2014 John Amory Gill, the son of Amory "Slats" and Helen Gill, passed away Aug. 27, 2014, in Kirkland, Wash., following complications from a stroke. John was 77 years old and had recently moved from Corvallis to Bellevue, Wash., to be closer to his sister, Jane Stephenson; niece; three nephews; and their families. John was enjoying his new home. His relocation in 2012 provided many new adventures including visiting Seattle attractions, attending many family events and following the Mariners and Seahawks. Prior to his move, John was a member of St. Mary's Parish in Corvallis and graduate from Corvallis High School and Oregon State University, Phi Delta Theta Fraternity Class of 1960. John had a 35-year career in the office of Publications and Admissions at OSU. A service was held Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014, at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Sammamish, Wash. The family asks that you keep John in your prayers and root just a little bit more for The Beavers. There is an obituary available at: flintoffs.com.

John was my first roommate at OSU in the fall of 1959, in that big old room at the top of the stairs in the Phi Delt house. I learned a lot from John about how to live well when life has made many things difficult. Later, whenever I had a student with a college-provided interpreter or a note-taker I thought of John doing it in the days before the ADA.

we miss him at our Monday bridge sessions at Silver Glen. He was always so patient with us when we talked to him. I was teaching bridge scoring. His presence added to our group. Margie Lindstrom
