Although not a close relative, I always felt a sense of pride whenever Black Rod was mentioned in the media.
When anyone queried my surname as being unusual, I always told them about Black Rod being John Gingell and felt better for it.
My son, Craig, has included John in his Family History website gingell.com where nearly all Gingells, worldwide, are featured.
I will always remember John as family and with pride, may he rest in peace with our Lord so that one day, I might meet him face to face.
