GLASGOW, John Francis Frank Ottawa/Baddeck, N.S. We regret to announce the passing of Frank Glasgow on July 2nd, 2009 in Ottawa. Born on July 23, 1924 in Sydney, N.S. to Hugh Burton and Catherine (Connors) Glasgow. He is survived by his long time companion, best friend and confidant Jeanne Aucoin, Ottawa, sons Daniel (Marion) Sydney, Ian (Carol) Halifax, Greg (Colleen) Truro, Michael (Debbie) Tatamagouche, daughters Moira (Robert) Legere-Sers Antigonish, Laurie (Steve) Flindall Wellington, Theresa, Fall River, and sister Julia (Maynard) MacKenzie, Middle River, nineteen grandchildren, four great grandchildren, thirteen nieces and nephews and is fondly remembered by the Aucoin families. He was predeceased by his wife Dorothy (Arac), infant son Hugh Reginald, brothers Fred, Raymond, Bert, and sisters Mamie Mroz and Veronica Melnyk. A graduate of Sydney Academy, Frank attended ST.F.X. University where he obtained a BA, B Ed, MS Economics and later a Diploma of Regional Economic Development. As a student he worked as a stoker on the Merchant Marine ship, Lord Strathcona and stoked the fires at CJFX Radio, Antigonish. He taught high school at Sydney Academy for ten years and became Assistant Inspector of Schools, Cape Breton Industrial Region. He was elected Secretary of the Board of the Sydney Co-operative Society. Serving on the NSTU Board for four years, he was elected as the last unpaid President of the NSTU, serving for another three years. Frank then accepted the position of Assistant Director of the Coady International Institute. While at Coady, a delegation of German Bishops financed Frank to develop a school in the Philippines to train rural community leaders. This resulted in the creation of SEAROLIN University (South East Asia Rural and Social Training Institute). Approached by the Dept. of External Affairs, under the Canadian International Development Association, he became the Director of the Extension Department, UBBS, Southern Africa in Basutoland, later named Lesotho. Returning to ST.F.X. for a year, he then became the Director of Community Development, Atlantic Region, with the Dept. of Secretary of State in Halifax. Frank then became Regional Director of Educational Services, Prairie Provinces, Correction Services Canada. Before retirement he transferred to New Brunswick, same position, Atlantic Provinces. He spent his retirement years between Ottawa and Baddeck, N.S. Mass and Burial service in St. Theresa's Catholic Church, Sydney, Nova Scotia at a later date. I worked with Frank in Saskatoon at Correctional Service of Canada and found him to always be kind, respectful and ever the gentleman. May your memories of your father and friend provide comfort in the days ahead.
