There are no words to express my admiration for this young man. He endured more than most of us can imagine and did it with his head held high. No "poor, pitiful me" attitude, not even as a teenager. He was there for me and my kids in a tremendous time of need and brought smiles that I desperately needed. His quick, witty sense of humor is something I will never forget. I only regret not spending more time with him. I am so very grateful to his parents for allowing me the blessing to spend some time in those last few weeks. They are moments that I will cherish forever. Thank you Gerry and Fran for raising such an incredible young man and thank you for being such a special part of my life.

We are deeply saddened that John has passed, but gladdened that his courageously fought battle from his lengthy illness is over. We are in awe of how Gerry, Fran, John and his siblings handled the inevitable through their, bond and support, expressed openly through tears, laughter and devoted love. We are very grateful to have spent time with John recently, telling stories, chatting, laughing, breaking bread and sharing in his honesty and bravery.
Our love, friendship and prayers go out to Gerry, Fran, Becky, Sarah, Kate and Bob as well as his faithful companion Bailey.

I have worked in hospice for a decade and there are some patients who leave a permanent imprint on your heart-John is one of those for me. Despite his unimaginable pain, John always blessed me with stories of his adventures and many laughs. He was a joy to serve and a bright light to his entire hospice team. I will never forget him.

Fran and Gerry, through the last couple of months of John´s time on Earth you three have taught me so much about living. What an honor it has been to be in your presence! You guys have always shown the world how to do "here" right, but now also how to do the transition to "THERE" right. This world is such a better place because the Heatherington family is in it. So, now is Heaven.
I pray for you, love you, and thank God for you.
