John 'Hoot' Hutar, 58, of Ely, Minn. passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2006 at Veteran Memorial Hospital in Minneapolis. John was born July 26, 1948 in Ely, Minn. to John and Katherine Hutar. Following John's graduation in 1968 from Ely Memorial High School, John enlisted in the United States Army and then served in Vietnam. Upon his return home from serving his country, John was employed with Reserve Mining Company and MacMillian Electric until the launch of his own contracting company, Hutar Construction, in 1990. John always surrounded himself with many friends. For years, John looked forward to his annual fishing trip to Canada with the boys and the annual softball tournament in which he sponsored. John dedicated a lot of his time and energy to the Ely Moose Lodge for over 8 years to ensure the effectiveness of the Lodge's purpose. John was preceded in death by his father John. He is survived by his mother Katherine Hutar of Ely, Minn.; his three daughters, Jodi (Mark) and their two sons AJ and newcomer Ty of Ely, Jackie and her son Alex of Ely, Kate (Ernie) and their son Dillon of Manitoba, Canada. Also, older sister Jean (Art) Tome of Ely, Minn. and two very close friends, Mary Kay Sass and Debbie Brobin. MEMORIAL SERVICE:1 p.m. Saturday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church located 231 East Camp Street in Ely.
