John "Jack" Schramm Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 16, 2025.
John (Jack) Joseph Schramm, 83, of Leesburg, Florida (recently, Granite Bay, CA) died peacefully on November 16, 2024, at home, from pancreatic cancer.

Born to Lou and Marie Schramm, he grew up in South Ozone Park, Queens, New York, with his siblings, Sister Mary (OSU), James, Virginia, Stephen, Jane, Angela and Marian. As a family, they spent many memorable summers in the Catskills at the family cabin in Roscoe, NY. In 1958, he graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School. In that same year, his heart was broken when his beloved Brooklyn Dodgers left Ebbets Field for Los Angeles. He was forevermore without a team and yet loyally wore his Brooklyn Dodgers blue cap until his final days.

In 1959 Jack enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was stationed at NAS Lakehurst NJ, where, as a Machinest's Mate, he maintained the Beechcraft (Beechie Bomber) TC45N planes and N-class blimps. In 1962 he was a crewmember that decommissioned the blimps, earning him a small spot in a Life Magazine story.

In 1965, he married Marion Patrica Lally with whom they had three children: Michael, Mary Ellen, and Thomas. After a brief period of living in Queens, the family moved to Nashua, New Hampshire, where he and Marion raised their children. They took many camping trips together, including one from New Hampshire to California and back, on a route that led to a variety of national parks. Ever devoted to his family, he worked as a technical field service engineer for over 30 years at Xerox Corporation in Northern New England.

In 2000, he and Marion moved to Leesburg, Florida, where they took up residence at Pennbrooke Fairways. There he joined the softball league, played regular poker events, and became an avid trivia player. He and Marion often traveled throughout the United States to visit relatives and see sights. The highlights of their travels include a trip to the Grand Canyon for Mary Ellen's wedding to Stephen Wayne, to California for the birth of their granddaughter Olivia and to Seattle to visit their son Thom.

Jack was predeceased by his wife Marion and by his daughter and grandson Gus Wayne, and is survived by his loving sons, daughter-in-law Ana Lucia Garcia Araujo Schramm, son-in-law Stephen Wayne, grandson Owen Wayne, and granddaughter Olivia Araujo Schramm.

A memorial for Jack and Marion will be held on Sunday, April 20th, 2025 at Chadwick Funeral and Cremation Service, 253 Main Street, New London, NH at 9:00 AM. A reception with light refreshments will follow at 154 Knights Hill Road in New London.
