A poem for John:

I have been one acquainted with the night.
I have walked out in the rain - and back in the rain.
I have out walked the furthest city light.

I was so saddened to hear of John's passing.I remember John as a warm,quiet gentle man,with a wonderful sense of humor.I lived with John and his sister,Chris,after I finished nursing school and we all worked in St.John's,Nl.We had great fun and shared some wonderful laughs.John had a dry sense of humor that would have me laughing so hard.My deepest sympathy to his family and friends.

Now when we think about your life,
We won't dwell upon its close;
We'll remember all the good times,
And forget about life's blows.

To Mrs. Fudge and the Loder Family;

I was both shocked and saddened to hear of John's passing.

I met John when he spent a year in high school in Baie Verte, and also through his older sister, Rose, who was a family friend. I knew John as a very quiet and shy person, and also being kidded as being "the smart one".

May he rest in peace, and I wish the family peace and comfort at this difficult time.

I knew John as the quiet but funny brother of my friend Chris. My favorite memory of John is when we were teenagers and I would call over to their house to talk to Chris. John would answer the phone before Chris could get to it and proceed to tell me a funny story. He would not let me talk to her until he finished the story. He would do this every chance he could with the same story every time. It always makes me smile when I think about it.

I will always cherish my memories of the time spent at Mr. and Mrs. Loders house with John and Chris.

Memories of my little brother ...

Christine Loder

January 27, 2012

John was my little brother. We were just about one and a half years apart in age. We grew up together as siblings and friends, we went to and from school together. He was so smart that he was reading story books to me before I could read well myself.

Our father took us to church on Sunday mornings and oh how he hated that suit and tie. He fidgited so much and would do and say things to make me laugh and on one Sunday morning Dad didn't say "shush," didn't even turn his head, he just reached over and grasped John's knee. There wasn't a sound after that!! Afterward I asked if it hurt and he replied, "I was paralyzed to my toes!"

When we were older and I had friends around, he'd hide behind a door or in my closet then jump out to scare us and we were always taken by surprise.

We listened to the same music, went berry-picking with friends ... he gave me rides on the snowmobile, his motorcycle and when he got his drivers licence we travelled all over Newfoundland.

I am filled with love, gratitude and wonderful memories of my brother.

John was like an uncle to me, he was my dads best friend for 25 years. He was the nicest person i think i have ever known. He would always build things for me and my sister from scratch like bunk beds and other little things. I know if something had ever happen to my dad i would be able to go to him. He may not have talked alot but i know he loved me and he would do anything for me. I didn't get to see him often and i miss him like crazy. But i know he will always be there with me where ever i go. John i love you so much please stay with me forever.

John's story - from his sister, Rosalie

Rosalie Fudge

January 24, 2012

John was delivered by a midwife at our home in La Scie, Newfoundland.

We came home at lunch time from being outside to find a new baby boy which would be the last child to arrive. Of course us older kids all doted on him. I (Rosalie) was 12 at that time and sometimes I had the unenviable task of changing his diaper which years later I took great pleasure in reminding him. It wasn't long before I was looking forward to the play times, the fun, the laughter and the games as he grew older. At three he was given a peddle car and once he learned how to manoeuvre it he stole Mom's yarn to outline a race course through the house.

Then came his first day of school and after just a few days his teacher had to admonish him for telling her jokes while in class so he asked if he could tell her at recess time. She allowed it and she and his classmates were all privy to the story.

John's sense of humor became obvious early in life. He became an avid softball player while at school in La Scie and always a straight A student. He left home, went to college to become a machinist – precision was always utmost with him – the yarn race track was proof of that. He spent almost 25 years at B.C. Instruments in Schomberg Ontario working at his chosen trade.

John's visits back home were a joy for all of us, especially our parents and at Christmas he sent so many gifts to delight and surprise we couldn't help but love this generous man who was once a little "imp."
