I only knew John briefly, but was taken by his wit and insight during our conversations. I am very sad to hear of his passing and I extend my condolences to his family.

"Mr. McKay" was one of my favourites of my parents' friends; I'll never forget as a young teenager, him appearing with a normal looking tie (on the front side) which had a naked woman as its lining! This was the Mr. McKay I knew and loved; he was a prankster and enjoyed talking to young people. In his later years, he was my mum's next door neighbour at Amica where again he made his presence known; he was a real personality and very proud of his children. I will miss him.

I am now back from Vancouver, and more and ever, I miss my Canadian father, John R Mackay a lot who with his wife Evlen F Mackay together made who I am and where I am now. Such a great couple, John and Evlen Mackay now sleep together in peace. Thank you!!

I'll always remember John from my days at Davis & Company. He was always so friendly and outgoing. he had great fun teasing me and telling everyone I was 40 on my 40th birthday. I didn't have the heart to tell him that I thought being 40 was great. Everyone liked him. Although I hadn't seen him since 1979, I'll still miss him. I just found out that his funeral was today (7th). I would have loved to be there. My condolences to his family

The John Mackay I'll always remember was the same straight-shooting guy I met in my first week at Davis, in 1981. His warmth and generosity of spirit attracted clients and colleagues alike, offering guidance, friendship and invariably, some slightly over-the-line humour! It was always great fun to work on deals with John - he had a large and loyal client following, he loved his work and he made sure everyone around him shared in that. Irresistible and lovable to the last - it was a privilege to have been his partner and friend.

I remember family dinners with John when we were children. I always admired my handsome, older cousin. I'm very glad we recently reconnected. Eleanor Barons Piskorik

Rest in Peace, John.
In my earlier years you made Davis a welcoming place for articling students and we all developed strong memories of you as we look back on our paths to becoming associates and then partners. A gregarious, human and fun loving man, with a piercing voice that never required a microphone and always commanded attention. You certainly helped to shape my connection to our law firm and were a positive influence on many others as well.
There are many "John" stories that still circulate with affectionate recollection of the man and the times.

He will be missed- he made life at Davis and Company fun. He and Evlyn were the greatest of hosts and his nickname of "Susy Homemaker" was well deserved. At the office, he preferred the more formal "Susan Homemaker" but either name got a rise out of him and that great hearty laugh. RIP John
