John Masino Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 7, 2025.
John Batista Masino, 85, of Harwood, Maryland, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, January 5, 2025. John was born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1939, in Philadelphia PA to Frank and Josephine Masino. John grew up in a large Italian immigrant family with cousins on every corner in South Philly. Like his father, John was incredibly curious and could build or fix anything which led to his path of electrical engineering. He went to Penn State for a few years but decided to join the US Air Force where he finished his schooling. More than anything, John loved to spend long days on the beach with family and friends. He spent many summers working on the Jersey Shore. His last wishes were to stand where the water meets the sand in Wildwood and take in the calmness. John's natural abilities for design, mathematics, and building not only supported his years in the service, and lifetime career in engineering at Northrop Grumman, but also passion for working long weekends in his woodshop and later his farm. John loved animals and surrounded himself with many over the years. Honorable mentions: Puppy, Daisy, Howard, and Bentley. John was quiet; a thinker not a speaker who only spoke words when it was meaningful. The lessons his family will take away from his example are ones of compassion, inclusion, kindness, hard work, and determination. But the best and most important lesson is that "there's always room for one more at the table so pull up a chair."

John is survived by his wife Robin; his children Jodi, David (Cindy), Jay (Teresa); his grandchildren Joseph (Elizabeth), Patrick, and Frankie; his two nieces and nephew, Kim, Lisa (Mark); and countless great nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his sister, Isabel.

A prayer service will be private, but in honor of John's life, please stop by to raise a glass at his Celebration of Life. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice of the Chesapeake or the American Cancer Society.

Hi Robin,

This is Ramesh. I called John's number about 2 weeks ago and again 2 days ago, but no answer. First time I thought that he will call back. But since he did not call me back even after the 2nd call, I got concerned and checked on Google and saw the bad news. I am very sorry that John passed away. We became very close friends while we worked at Northrop Grumman, first at College Park and then in Gaithersburg. We would go out for a lunch time walk and pick nails and screws, if we saw one, from road to prevent car tire punctures. He was such an honest and plain speaking person, and always helping his staff. I have not met another person like John in all my life. I am really-really going to miss him. May God bless him.

Dear Mrs. Masino,

I am sorry to hear the news about your beloved husband. John hired me in 1985 to join his field service group at Litton-Amecom. John was the best manager anybody could wish for. Seven field service guys worked on the WASHFAX III, Fastfax, and TDF programs. John employed a minimalist management style. If a problem arose in our group, he had a standard response - "handle it". John was the opposite of a micro manager, and everybody appreciated him for it. He trusted our judgment. We saw John once a week when visiting our building to deliver our paper checks. Field service group members:

Steve Sessions
Bob Adams
Tom Boniface
Bob Topar
Tom Merkle
Bob Pike

May John rest in peace.

Sincerely,

Paul Henry
