John Mcintyre Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 1 to Feb. 4, 2024.
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the peaceful passing of John Paul McIntyre, a valiant veteran, beloved brother, uncle, and cherished friend to many. John transitioned to his eternal home with the Lord on January 30th, 2024 at the age of 73, leaving behind a legacy of love, camaraderie, and a life well-lived.

Born on December 9th, 1950, to the late Stephen and Agnes McIntyre in Newton, MA, John's journey took him on paths of honor and service. As a Marine veteran, he served his country with pride earning a Purple Heart for his service in the Vietnam War. His commitment to duty and sacrifice reflected his deep sense of patriotism.

John was a dedicated family man. Brother to the late Jean McIntyre, the late Stephen McIntyre, Michael McIntyre (and Leslie McIntyre), Peter McIntyre (and his wife Kathy Coe); brother-in-law to Barbara Keough; and Uncle to Maura McIntyre (and her husband Tony), Shay McIntyre, Kaylee McIntyre (and her husband Tyler), Brent McIntyre (and his wife Bettie), Mike McIntyre (and his wife Becky), Colleen McIntyre, and many great-nieces and nephews; he brought boundless love and joy to his family, creating lasting memories that will be cherished forever. His warmth and generosity extended beyond blood ties, as he became a cherished friend to many. John's infectious spirit, kindness, and willingness to lend a helping hand endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A passionate golfer, John found solace and joy on the greens, where he shared countless rounds with friends and family. His love for the sport was a reflection of his zest for life and his ability to find joy in simple pleasures. His adventurous spirit also led him to relocate to Palm Spring CA in the 1990's while finding a second home in Scottsdale AZ and Bend OR where he embraced the beauty of life and the warmth of the community.

John Paul McIntyre's life and Marine service will be honored at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Wounded Warrior Project https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/ ; St. Jude https://www.stjude.org/give.html or The First Tee https://firsttee.org/donate/.

I just became aware of Johnny's passing and am saddened. We grew up together in Newton and he was one of my inspirations to join the Marines. A terrific golfer but small in stature yet he was tenacious at Parris Island and Vietnam. After my tour and college I served 24 more in the Army and never let Johnny's image out of my sight. I now am an avid golfer. Rest in Peace and Semper Fi! Jack Donovan, Colonel (Ret), Chapel Hill, North Carolina

John was a true gentleman through and through. He was a proud patriot and veteran. He was a protector and could handle any situation with grace. Even through his cancer journey he was upbeat and surrounded by many friends who loved him. Seems he left this planet a little early.. but who am I to say. I am happy to have known him.

Although it has been many years since we have seen John, we often thought of him and our many fond memories. We will always remember how kind he was to Patti's father. Rest in Peace John,

I met John 7 years ago while visiting the desert. My plan was to end up out here for good.
Always a gentleman, always smiling, John showed me around town and introduced me to his many friends.
When I heard of his health issues, he made light of it and kept a solid stance.
When I let him know I would miss him, he said," Just remember the time I knocked my glass of red wine all over you, and have a good laugh."
I will John, but you will be deeply missed

I met John in the mid 90´s when I visited Palm Springs on a girls weekend. We have been close friends ever since. He was funny, kind, smart & brave. He enjoyed a good steak & nice restaurants, but also liked a hot dog at a ball game. He enjoyed traveling & spent many summers living in other places to get out of the heat of the desert in then summer. He was passionate about the game of golf. I will miss him dearly. Rest in peace, my friend.
