John Merker Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 27, 2025.
Albert John Merker IV, known to everyone as John, passed away on March 20, 2025, in Phoenix, Arizona, on his 57th birthday. Born on March 20, 1968, in Oak Park, Illinois, John lived a life marked by dedication to his family, an unwavering work ethic, and a gift for bringing laughter to those around him.

John was the beloved father of Margaux and Maddie Merker. His daughters were the center of his world, and he devoted himself wholeheartedly to their happiness and well-being. He is also mourned by his mother, Pamela Merker; his sister, Melissa Nio; and many others whose lives he touched with his warmth and humor.

He was preceded in death by his father, Albert John Merker III; his maternal grandparents Hugh "Doc" Ryan and Mary "Guildee" Ryan; his paternal grandparents Albert John Merker II and Christine Merker; his godfather and uncle, John Ryan; his godmother and aunt, Rosemary Wright; and his uncle, Jim Ryan.

John built a career through his perseverance and integrity. He began as a warehouse worker and steadily advanced through roles at UPS, McMaster-Carr, HD Supply, and Amazon. In 2021, he joined Martin Brower Distribution Company, where he recently earned a promotion to Assistant Manager of Transportation-a testament to both his ambition and the respect he garnered from colleagues.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, John was known for his infectious sense of humor and quick wit. He had an extraordinary ability to make people laugh-whether among friends or family-and brought joy wherever he went. In addition to his love of family, he also loved Elvis Presley, the Chicago Cubs, Bears and Hawks, playing golf or anytime spent with friends.

John's main priority in life was to protect and support those he loved. His loyalty ran deep, and he consistently showed up for others with kindness and compassion. Whether sharing a joke or lending a helping hand, he made people feel seen and valued.

A service honoring John's life will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at St. James the Apostle Parish located at 480 S. Park Blvd in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. The service will begin at 10:00 AM. A celebration of life will follow at Park & Oak in Glen Ellyn.

John's legacy lives on through the laughter he inspired, the love he gave so freely to his daughters, family, and friends, and the example he set through hard work and kindness. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.

I had the distinct privilege of working with John at HD Supply years ago. He had moved to Arizona and we had lost touch over the years but we would connect periodically on LinkedIn. Like most of us, John had gone through personal trials and tribulations and I always respected the way that he battled back from adversity. He was, without question, the funniest human being that I had ever been around. His daughters meant the world to him and I am glad that he had time to spend with them before his passing.

Prayers with John´s family. We were shocked to hear of his passing. Taken way too young. Will always remember his laugh and fun spirit! Such a kind loving person. Heaven has gained a beautiful Angel. Rest in peace John. Until we meet again.
