EDEN — John Henry Mize, Jr., 58, of Eden, passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at Morehead Memorial Hospital in Eden. He was born January 17, 1955 in Wichita Falls, Texas. He was a graduate of Morehead High School and received his Machinist diploma at Rockingham Community College that was taught by his future father-in-law, Doug Coone, and after Mr. Coone's retirement, John taught the course until the position was permanently filled by a new instructor.
He was employed as a fixer at Lorillard Tobacco Company in Greensboro for 27 years. John was a loving husband, father, friend, and had a servant's heart. He loved to "piddle" and repair things. He always loved to stay busy doing something especially for others.
He is survived by his wife, Andrea Coone Mize; his son, Michael Chadwick Mize of Madison; his step-son Joshua Franklin Wade; and his step-daughter Jessica Madison Wade. He was also blessed with close friends and family that were there for him during this difficult time.
The family will receive friends at the home of his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Doug and Sallie Coone, at 776 Circle Drive, Eden, and other times at the home. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
The family would like to thank the staff at Morehead Memorial Hospital and the Smith-McMichael Cancer Center for their wonderful care and support during this time. The family would also like to thank his co-workers for their support during his illness.

I have fond memories from when I was very young of Uncle Johnny and I playing with pennies and teasing me by hiding them. I always smile when I think of that or when I see a penny. Love and miss you...

Andrea and family, my deepest sympathy goes out to all of you. John and I use to set around and talk about our wonderful families and how blessed we were. Unfortunately I had to go out on early retirement, but I considered John one of my dearest and best friends at Lorillard. God will see you through this time of sorrow and sadness, I know John will always be your guardian angel watching over you.

Johnny was a great father to his son Michael. He taught his son so many things. He taught him how to drive a tractor when he was so young. He taught him how to weld and to use a log splitter and gather wood in the winter. He also made sure that Michael passes his grades in school. He would help anyone out when ever they needed the help. And didn't ask for nothing in return....
