John Morrissey Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Feb. 23 to Feb. 24, 2023.
Our beloved John (Jack) Edward Morrissey entered into God's Kingdom at home surrounded by his loving family on February 22, 2023 after a long battle with asbestosis.

Jack was born to Rosa (Merrow) Morrissey and Lawrence Morrissey in May of 1943 in Lewiston, Maine. Jack graduated from Edward Little High School in 1961. After graduating, he pursued a career in the insulation industry which would become his lifelong career. He worked for Buerhaus Insulation Company in Auburn Maine for 17 years as an insulation mechanic, estimator, superintendent, and eventually VP of Commercial Contracting. He went on to form Morrissey Asbestos Abatement Co. (MAAC) and Damon Insulation Company in 1985 with his long term business partner and close friend, Carl Damon. He would build those businesses over the next 15 years, be fortunate to sell them in 2000, and retire by the age of 57.

High School sweethearts, Jack and Phyllis (Francoeur) Morrissey were married in 1963 and were happily married for 60 years. Jack & Phyllis devoted their entire lives to their family. Went on to have 3 children; Donna, Maureen, and Sean; 8 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren (and another one due in March).

Jack was a loyal servant to God, first and foremost. He not only had faith, but he lived it, as shown by his big heart and abundant generosity to friends, relatives and family. Whether it was supporting his own children at sporting events, babysitting grandchildren, hosting holiday parties and events, at either his Auburn home, or later at the lake house in New Gloucester, his family was always the center of his life. He later retired to Vero Beach, Florida to live out his twilight years and went on to build a close network of friends and neighbors in his Woodfield Community with whom he often shared prayer. He also loved to play golf and poker with his buddies from the club.

Jack is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis Morrissey, daughters and sons in laws, Donna and Jim Fossett, and Maureen and Joey Myrick, and son and fiance, Sean Morrissey and Christina Bournakel; grandchildren, Nicole and Adam Whittier, Sarah and Barry Babcock, John Fossett, Katie Poussard, Matt Myrick, Andrew Morrissey, Joshua Morrissey, and Christen Morrissey; great grandchildren, Lydia Breau, Logan Whittier, Caden Babcock, and Carson Poussard; as well as Jack's brother and siter in law, Barry and Angela Morrissey, his sister, Judy Morin, and his supportive nephew, Michael Lafayette.

A celebration of life will be held in Maine this spring. TBD.

So many memories of Jack. He was always available if you needed anything. He loved to play cards and seem to win most of the time. Jack was always there for his family and friends. For me, football season will never be the same without him. Rest in peace Jack--you have earned this. Hoping that Phyllis and her family find peace during this time and surround each other with love
