John Pearson Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province from Dec. 15 to Dec. 17, 2017.
John Warren Pearson Jr December 11, 1946 - December 10, 2017 It is with great sadness that we announce John's passing after a brave battle with corticobasal degeneration. John will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Marilyn, his daughters, Emily (James) and Madeline (Con), his step children Vanessa (Jeroemie) and Zach, his sister Lee (Anthony), brother Brian (Lesley), nieces and nephew, Oma and Charlie.

John was born in Portland, Oregon. He enrolled in the opening year of Simon Fraser University, graduated in 1968 and completed his law degree at Dalhousie in 1971.

John dedicated over 40 years to practicing law and became a senior partner at McCarthy Tetrault. Among his peers and clients he was known as a knowledgable and highly respected lawyer with great personal integrity. Always keen to explore new fields - from maritime law, to mining, to biotech and more - he was a true lifelong learner and a new book or newspaper were never far away.

John loved to cook with his wife Marilyn and they and their family shared his passion for travel. He was an avid fisherman; sailing and the ocean gave him great joy.

If you knew John and would like to share in our celebration of his life, please join us at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club on Sunday, January 7th at 1 pm.

I only learned of John's passing today after reading the tribute in the Advocate. Coincidentally today I came across his name on summary of a deal we worked on years ago at McT. I worked on a few files with John in my early associate days and remember him as calm and kind, and generous with his time. My condolences to the family.

I worked as a temporary Legal Assistant with John at McCarthy Tetrault. A very nice man, always with a smile. He will be missed!

Emily and Madeline,

Heartfelt condolences to you and your family. We have wonderful memories of your dad and mom celebrating various school events during the Irwin Park days. There were many fun times at your house on Rosebery and your dad was always a gracious host with a big smile and a warm welcome. He will be remembered fondly and truly missed.

To all of John's family, please accept sincere condolences for your loss. John was the first lawyer I did a large amount of work with. I could not have had a better early mentor. The principles and ideals I learned from John have guided and sustained me for more than 35 years in practice. I was proud to become a partner of John's with Shrum, Liddle and then McCarthy Tetrault. I am sorry that I will be away and unable to join in the celebration of John's life on January 7 but I will carry many fond memories with me.

The family of John
We were classmates @ Dalhousie Law School in 1971.
John was a good friend to many of us - lots of smarts and a fabulous sense of humour . None of us were surprised that he had a great career and lived a very interesting life . His exit from the stage of life has come too soon but of course few of us can control such events . His family should know that many share your loss.
In his day and generation he made a difference to many . Those who met him on the road of his life were enriched by that . May his eternal rest be in peace.
Sincere condolences to all to whom he was endeared.
