He was a great doctor from my point of view. I have worked in the hospital system for more than 30 years as an RN and have evaluated many doctors. I was saddened when I called his rooms last time to make an appointment and heard Ros's voice saying he had become ill and was no longer working. I knew what that really meant from experience and the sadness in her voice. I have known several doctors who have worked on past 'retirement' age serving their patients and the public only to have their own free time reduced. He would check my BP every visit and was more concerned about a slight elevation than my GP ever was. On my last appointment we talked about boats which I think might have been more therapeutic for him than me. But I enjoyed the talk.

Dr Pickering was one of the kindest people I have ever met. Intelligent, funny, loved to talk, but such a kind person.
The compassion he had for me and my brother I will always be thankful for. He was literally a life saver. Without him I don't even know where we would be.
My deepest condolences go out to his family and friends. He was such a great guy.

Dr Pickering was like a saviour to me. He was so much more than just a doctor. There is no way to replace him. All i can do is be grateful for the advice and time he gave me. I will never forget what he has done for me.

I met Dr Pickering only twice, at a turning point in my life. This was near the end of his time - too short a time - yet, bravely, he shared what was left with others who needed him. He was the first person to ever truly understand my half-century of confusion, and my optimism for the chance of a better future, which he genuinely encouraged and shared. This was very generous of him. John Pickering was a good man whose kindness I will remember. To his family, friends and patients, I offer my sincere condolences.

So sad to hear of Dr Pickering's passing. He was a great doctor and a top bloke also. He helped me in many ways and my life wouldn't be the same if not for his help and intervention. I owe him a lot. My heart absolutely aches for his family and loved ones. My deepest sympathies to them all. He will be greatly missed.

Very sorry to hear of the tragic, early death of Dr John Pickering. Dr Pickering was a rare breed of specialist who never saw himself as superior or in any way aloof from his patients. There would be few as well qualified and experienced willing to support a primarily poor/disadvantaged clientele, few willing to undertake the medical/legal work, and few as robust as he in defence of the rights of the disabled. Dr Pickering is a tremendous loss. I will miss him.

I miss him. It was not everyday that I used to meet him, but I looked forward to keeping my appointments with him. Without hesitation, I would have exchanged positions with his - He was so much younger than myself. John, an extremely sincere man gave me peace of mind when I needed it most. It is sad that I could do nothing for him in return. My heartfelt condolences to his family. A good man, may GOD receive him with open arms.
