Prairie Village , Kansas - John passed away peacefully in his home on May 24th 2022. John Ernest Scofield was born December 18th 1944 in Kansas City, Missouri to William and Mary Cathryn Scofield .
He graduated from Bishop Miege High School, and went on to graduate with a Bachelors degree from Rockhurst College.
John was a devoted and selfless father to his children; Christopher, Susan and William. His children always came first. Always.
His love of law enforcement landed him his dream job in 1971 with The Johnson County Sheriff's Office, where he worked as a Detective with numerous awards and accolades. After 26 years of service, he retired as Master Deputy in 1997.
In retirement, he enjoyed, traveling, rock and mineral collecting, watching sports and classic movies.
John was preceeded in death by his parents, William & Mary Cathryn Scofield and brother, Tom Scofield.
He is survived by son Christopher Scofield (wife Pepper & 10 grandchildren), daughter Susan Selberg (husband Stuart) and son William Scofield, brother Jim Scofield (wife Carolyn), sister Susan Swortwood and extended family & friends.
Everything John did in life, he did with humility and strength. He chose not to have a public service after his passing.
When preparing this obituary, his son William said "There's no way to sum up dad's life in a few paragraphs. He was the greatest man I've ever known". And he's right.
