John Stewart Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 14, 2011.
Stewart, John Attwood - 74, of Dartmouth, formerly of Montague, PEI passed away Saturday, June 11, 2011 at the Dartmouth General Hospital surrounded by his family. John is the son of the late Heath and Wilhelmina "Billie" (Kennedy) Stewart. Over his lifetime John had many occupations; he served with the Royal Canadian Air force, was a constable with the Charlottetown Police Force, had his own business, was a trucker, and drove for Nova Tours. John's favorite job however was being a devoted husband, amazing father and wonderful grandfather to John (Vanessa), Douglas (Leah), Amber, Phillip and recently great grandfather to Camden. Joan and John's passion for country music, and camping surrounded them with many wonderful friends who will greatly miss his humor and kind heart. John will be missed at family gathers and will always be remembered with a toast to the Captain. John is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Joan (Drake) of Millview, PEI. John will be greatly missed by his daughters, Susan (George) Gallant, Donna (Owen) Spence and his sister Shirley Crane Acorn, sister-in-law Janet Stewart both of Charlottetown, PEI. He was predeceased by his sister Fern Clarke, and brother Charlie Stewart. Visitation will be 6 – 8 pm Tuesday June 14, with a memorial service 11 am Wednesday June, 15 all in A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home. A private family burial will take place at a later date. Family flowers only. Dear Susan and Donna and families. I was sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with both of you and and your families. Although it has been many years I always think of his sense of humor when I think back to those few times I met him when you were on the island. Take care and give my sympathy to your mom at this difficult time. My mother hopes to get her address and send her a card as well.

Your old friend from PEI

To all the extended family, please accept my regrets and condolences for your loss. What a wonderful life was Att's, what an example to us of how to face with a chuckle the suffering we all must bear, never allowing misery to rule him or take away his love of life. I remember his and Joan's (and Max's) kind hospitality to us, his loving pride in their offspring, and most of all the neverending stories and jokes. As he told his mother-in-law the day he got his fill of painting, he's just "gone fishin' ". May it comfort all his loved ones who mourn his passing to know that he'll be waiting to share a "taste" with you in the sweet by-and-by -- and maybe even some fresh trout, too!
