John VISSER Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province on Feb. 27, 2013.
VISSER, John
Johnny 5 has left the building. Also known as "Gentleman John" to his older friends. After a lengthy illness, he is finally at peace. John Visser will always be remembered for his plethora of wild stories, his work ethic, and his generosity. In 1962 he joined the ILWU Local 502, and in 1980 joined Local 514, becoming a foreman until he retired in 1999. He enjoyed woodworking, and gardening, and many other hobbies. Of all things, what John cherished most was his family. He is survived by his brother George (Ruth), and sisters Joan (Bruce), and Margaret (Dan). His children Rob (Kerri), Lynda, Joy (Moe), and Lisa (Brian) are missing him very much, as are his grandchildren Miguel, Damian, and recent addition James. Predeceased by our mother Dorothy (nee Peterson). Dad was always there for all of us when we needed help, or just some advice. We can only hope we paid enough attention that we may continue as we must, with his voice in our ears, hand on our shoulders, guiding us.We love you Dad!
