CRYSTAL LAKE - John K. Wett Jr., 46, of Crystal Lake, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2008, at Centegra Hospice Care Center in Woodstock.

He was born May 6, 1961, in Havana, to John K. Wett Sr. and C. Judith Swanson.

He attended St. Mary's grade school, graduated from Marian Central High School in Woodstock, and attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering. He was employed at KAM Tool and Die in Woodstock.

He was a devoted and dedicated father to his daughter, Jillian, of Crystal Lake, and son, J.J., of Sycamore. He was very proud of his children. Family and his home were his main priorities in life.

He was a very competent and gifted man. He was capable of fixing anything. Whether it was a motor or a plumbing or electrical project, if it was broken, he was the person who could make it right. He was a skilled carpenter who left his mark on all the homes he owned in the area. What made him most unique was his natural talent. He was a self-taught man. He was quick to offer a helping hand to others. His phone frequently would ring, and friends often would say that if they needed help, they knew they could always call him.

He loved animals and enjoyed his dogs and cat. If he wasn't spending time working on his home, organizing his tools in his garage or fixing something, he enjoyed riding his motorcycle and being outdoors.

Survivors include his children, Jillian and J.J.; his mother and father, John and Judi Wett of Washington, Ill.; and his loving companion and best friend, Holly Richard. He also is survived by his brothers, Michael (Robin) Wett of Arlington Heights and Steve (Jeannie) Wett of McHenry; his sisters, Andrea (Tim) Brooks of St. Joseph and Jennifer (Brien) Friend of Washington, Ill.; 14 nieces and nephews; a special aunt, Marilou Wett of Woodstock; Holly's children, Jeremy, Jennifer and Ryan Richard, and three grandchildren, of Davenport, Iowa; and many aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents.

The visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25, at Schneider-Leucht-Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, 1211 N. Seminary Ave., Woodstock. The visitation will continue from 10 a.m. until the funeral at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made in his name to Families of SMA Spinal Muscular Atrophy, P.O. Box 196, Libertyville, IL 60048-0196, in honor of his son J.J., who was born with SMA; or to Hospice of Northeastern Illinois, 410 S. Hager Ave., Barrington, IL 60010-4196.

For information, call the funeral home at 815-338-1710.
