John Wickert Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Mar. 1 to Mar. 5, 2021.
John Michael David Wickert Jr. passed away quietly in his sleep surrounded by loved ones on Friday, February 26, 2021 in Madisonville, Louisiana at the age of 83. He was born on January 31, 1938, in Schenectady, New York. He was a native of Albany, New York where he met his beloved wife when they were six years old and married her in 1959. They celebrated 44 years together before she passed away, and he now joins her in Heaven. John served in the US Army, attended Renesselaer Polytechnic Institute, then worked for Univac where he helped develop some of the first computer programs and worked on the first US Census computer application. He lived in Falls Church, Virginia and then moved to Slidell, Louisiana in 1975 with his wife and five children. He found the Lord and was saved in 1978 when he was 40 years of age. After retiring from Mohawk Data Sciences in 1984 with a long successful career in sales, he faithfully served his church by volunteering as a deacon and servant of the Lord, which as he would say often, he considered himself blessed every day. John is survived by his five children that he told everyday how proud he was of them, #1 Teri Wickert Brenning, (Late Donald), #2 John Wickert III, (Chris), #3Donna Wickert Bradford,(Jason), #4 Barbara Wickert P'Pool, (David) and #5 Karen Wickert Walls,(Glenn); his grandchildren, Donald Brenning Jr, Morgan P'Pool, Zachary Walls, Brooke P'Pool, Michael Christopher, Emily Walls, and Ethan P'Pool; his Brother Paul Wickert; and his two great grandchildren, Christopher Brenning and Aubrey Brenning. The Pallbearers will be his son, John Wickert III, his sons-in-law David P'Pool, Glenn Walls, and his grandsons, Donald Brenning Jr, Zachary Walls, and Ethan P'Pool. Honorary Pallbearers are his grandson Michael Christopher and his son in law Jason Bradford. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Sophie Wickert; his wife, Bernice Veronica Pocius Wickert; his sister, Carol Wickert Perry and a grandson, Brandon David P'Pool. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Services at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd. West, Slidell, LA., on Friday, March 5, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. John was a great friend. I just found his obituary even though I called myself looking for him on the internet. I am very saddened by his passing but I’m certain he has made Heaven his new home with his wife. John worked for me for MDS in New Orleans. John was always happy and his humor telling life stories of himself has been remembered and I even have used some of them for many years. I will miss John but his life will continue though my vivid memories of him. Save me a seat, John!

We have such great memories of the Wickerts at Community Christian Church. He is a great brother on the Lord. I say, “IS” because we will see our brother again. Blessings, dear family ❤

It was a blessing and an honor to know brother John as a friend and mentor and to serve with him at Community Christian Church. His wisdom, insight, and biblical world view was always an inspiration to Robin and I, making us both better people and more well grounded and effective Christians. No matter how hard the day was, brother John had a way of making things seem better. His sense of humor was infectious and much appreciated. While we who are left behind grieve at the loss of our friend, we also celebrate with those in heaven who have gained an awesome new resident. And knowing that he is reunited with his beloved bride makes us smile all the more. We love and miss you brother John and now have yet anothe reason to look forward to one day "going home" as well....to meet with you once again.

My heart is breaking. It was my pleasure to work alongside John at First Assembly in Slidell for three years. He was always helpful and sought to provide whatever needs the office/church had. I think of my friends as I last saw them, but never expect them to go Home, which I know was John's hearts desire, to be with Bernice again. To the Family, may God be with you in this dark hour and give you the graces to carry on. I'm sure your father left you with many wonderful memories. God bless you one and all. Barbara Radosti.
