John WIENS Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 2, 2004.
WIENS, John It is with heavy hearts that we send our husband, father, poppa and friend to his joyful home with the God who John loved all his life. John Wiens was born 2 March 1929 in Chinook, Alberta, and died 30 April 2004 in Edmonton, Alberta, entirely loved and respected by those who were fortunate to walk with him. John will be greatly missed by his wife Irene, daughter Shirley (Ron), sons Brian (Kelly) and Trevor (Hiroko), and six cherished grandchildren: Alex, Jocelyn, Amelia, Anna-Marie, John and Yuriko. His daughter, Edie, and his father, David, predeceased him. He also leaves his mother, Anna (Baergen/Wiens) Dorn, and seven younger siblings and their families: Anne (Jake), Mary (Arley), George (Ruth), Dave (Elsie), Margaret, Thelma (George), and Karen (Otto), as well as many, many friends. John was a regular man who lived with uncommon grace, kindness and thoughtfulness. He accomplished even humble tasks as though they were great and noble. He faced life with integrity, courage and a gentle but zany sense of humor. At 75 years he approached life and those around him with interest and wonder. His enthusiasm for everything ranging from trains to birding to theology to dams was always apparent. He sought the best from, and for, those around him. He, in turn, gave unstintingly of his respect, blessing and love. He walked humbly and faithfully with his God. The funeral will be Tuesday, May 4 at 2:30 p.m., at First Mennonite Church, 3650-91 Street. Viewing will precede the service. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Cross Cancer or the Kidney Foundation. Thanks to the caring staff at the Cross Cancer Institute, and the U of A Hospital/Aberhardt dialysis units for their care and compassion in making John's last year an easier walk. Serenity Funeral Service, 5311-91 St. 450-0101. Condolences: www.serenity.ca Your Community Owned Not For Profit Society
