John Joseph Wink
Jan. 31, 1945 Dec. 9, 2006
NAPA < John Joseph Wink, 61, went home to God on Saturday, Dec. 9, 2006, at Queen of the Valley Hospital, after a productive life and a short battle with a long-term illness.
John enjoyed many things in life hunting, knife and gun collecting, and model building but he enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family, including his second family at Suisun Fire Protection District. John was a lifelong resident of Fairfield, and a graduate of Armijo High School, Class of 1963.
After 34 years of active service, John retired as a captain from Suisun Fire Protection District in 1997, at which time he was made a lifetime member. John spent many hours training rookie volunteers who have moved on to become professional firefighters. He was a fire investigator and a charter member of the Solano County Fire Investigation Unit. In 1993, he was awarded Firefighter of the Year and in 1998, he was president of the Solano County Fireman's Association.
John is survived by his partner and best friend, Ellen Wilson; son, Sean and wife Wendy Wink and their canine children, Malibu and Kodiak; daughter, Shannon and husband Robert Phillips and their four children (Megan, Sarah, Kandice, and Joseph); stepdaughter, Peggy Mayes; and five grandchildren (Thomas, Alex, Sarah, Amanda, and AJ). There are also a countless number of people who had adopted John as Dad.
Friends are invited for a visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, 2006, at the Nadeau Family Funeral Home.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fairfield with the Rev. Dan Molyneaux officiating. Following the funeral, a life celebration will be held at the Suisun Fire District Main Station.
Private inurnment will take place at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Suisun Fire Protection District or to Trinity Lutheran Church.
