Johnny “J.R.” Ray Moreno, III passed unexpectedly on the evening of Sunday, January 30, 2022, at the age of 64 years, 8 months and 25 days, at his home in DeRidder. J.R. was born on Sunday, May 5. 1957, in DeRidder, LA to Johnny Ray Moreno, II and Linda Knox.
J.R. was a devoted father and could not have been more proud of his kids’ accomplishments. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed nothing more than being out on the lake and spending time camping. JR was happily married to his sweetheart, Cathy, for 42 years and they enjoyed traveling and living life together. JR spend the majority of his life ministering and sharing the gospel. He graduated seminary at the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He served at the Central Baptist Church in McNeal, MS for 2 years, served as Associate Pastor and Youth Pastor at the Bellevue Baptist Church in Macon GA for 6 years, and served as Senior Pastor of the Immanuel Baptist Church of Jones County, Macon, GA for 15 years. He had a way of captivating any room he was in and never met a stranger. JR will be remembered for his incredible artistic abilities, bringing peace to families during distress, and his love of good food and fellowship.
JR is survived by his wife of almost 43years, Mary Catherine (Cathy) Navarre Moreno; his children, Brandon (Stefanie) Moreno, and Amanda (Carson) Durham; his parents, Linda Cusimano, and Johnny Ray Moreno II (Bonnie); his siblings, Carl Moreno (JoAnn), and Binky Bourgeois (Aaron).
He was preceded in death by his beloved grandmother, Pauline Knox and grandfather Albert Knox, and countless other friends and family.
In lieu of a formal service, the family will have an intimate memorial on his favorite lake to celebrate his life.
The family asks that you please follow the below link to join us in a celebration of his life. They ask that you share stories, memories, photos, and moments you shared with JR and family so that his family can have it made into a memorial book for each of their homes.

Cathy, Brandon, Amanda & Family,
God used JR's talent of artistic drawing and painting to move the largest mountains, triumphantly proclaim the Good News, and win many Souls to Christ. Some of JR's most powerful, uplifting, spiritually reviving, and Soul enriching sermons at Emmanual Baptist Church in Macon, Georgia involved music, an easel and canvas, and chalk or paint. JR spoke no words during the sermons but allowed God to guide JR's preciously gifted Hands to triumphantly exclaim and effectively spread the Word of God and the Good News to everyone. JR's Gift of Art was used and directed by God in His travels throughout this Nation attending and displaying his God-given talents at fairs, festivals, and carnivals.
JR's deep love for God's grandly created outdoor blessings were shared with many others around him. God paints us a glorious, outdoor picture to His children each day, whether it is a gloriously colorful sunrise slowly peaking over a grove of pine trees, the sparkling sun and breeze on the rippling waves of a Lake, the sweet sounds of birds awakening in the trees above a low-lying morning mist, or just the quiet peacefulness and comfort on a still, deep blue body of water.
God's World is the grandest and JR rejoiced and embraced every God-Given and Loving Moment of it. JR was a Kind, Humorous, Positive, God-Loving, Fun Soul and Christian Soldier. God blessed our Family by allowing JR and Family into Our Lives. My Mom & Dad richly enjoyed being "surrogate" Grandparents to both Amanda and Brandon. They were raised well as lead by the Hand of God.
Our prayers for Healing, Comfort, and Peace will continue for you and your family and friends. JR's artistic Hands now are in God's Hands. Sweet, Precious Soul.
Love,
Ronnie Sharpe

Ms. Cathy & family, I'm so very sorry to hear about my favorite youth pastor passing away! I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. I will forever cherish the memories from Bellevue and our youth trips. He was an amazing individual who loved the Lord and we always felt surrounded by love with him around.
