Jon J. Albanese, a Melrose resident, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at Tufts Medical Center in Boston at age 41. Jon was born in Melrose on November 26, 1980. He was raised in Melrose, graduated from Melrose High School, Class of 1999, and from Curry College with a Degree in Communications in 2003. While in college, Jon interned at WRKO, and after graduating, received a position as a Technical Producer. After four years at WRKO, he joined WEEI as an Executive Sports Producer. Jon worked on radio broadcasts for the Boston Red Sox and Celtics Radio Networks, enjoying every minute with his coworkers, and fulfilling his love of Boston sports. After experiencing numerous broadcasting and personal highlights at WEEI, Jon accepted a position as Manager and Executive Producer of the PGA Tour Radio station on Sirius XM Radio. Once again, Jon was blessed to experience up close his passion for golf while working with PGA Tour athletes and visiting golf courses across the country. Most recently, Jon's career brought him closer to family with his current role at WBUR as a Recording Technician in Boston. From high school, to college, to his broadcasting career, Jon brought people together. He was humble, lighthearted, always willing to laugh, and approachable. Throughout his life, Jon's fun-loving nature led him to receiving nicknames from those he loved. To various people, Jon was Alby, Jab, Metalhead Jon, Bernie, and to his family, Jonny Baby or Uncle Jon Jon. He fostered numerous relationships that brought him much joy through all phases of life, and he was always incredibly supportive and loyal. In his free time, Jon loved golfing with family and friends, and attending heavy metal concerts. At home, he enjoyed cooking, grilling, listening to Pink Floyd, and watching his Boston sports teams, especially the Red Sox. Above all, Jon's first priority was always his family, and he was always ready to help. Jon will be deeply missed, but his compassionate, supportive, and fun-loving spirit will be always remembered and treasured. Jon was the cherished son of Joseph A. "Joe" Albanese & Margaret M. (Begley) "Maggie" Albanese of Wells, ME. Beloved brother of Jaclyn Albanese & her wife Eden of Reading. Proud uncle of Porter & Lawson Albanese of Reading. Loving nephew of Michael Albanese & his wife Paula of Wilmington, John Begley of Stoughton, David Begley of Onset, and Robert Albanese of Stoneham. Also survived by several loving cousins, & many dear friends. Relatives & friends are kindly invited to gather during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Sunday, March 6 from 2-6pm, and for his Funeral Mass at the Church of the Incarnation, 429 Upham St., Melrose celebrated on Monday at 10am. Interment at Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose. If you wish, gifts in Jon's memory to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Northeast, PO Box 22470 New York, NY 10087.

To me Jon was always bouncy and upbeat, both in his smile and his walk. Whenever I thought of Jon, it brought a smile to my heart. Now, a tear. Dear neighbors, Joe and Maggie, and Jaclyn, please accept my sorrowful sympathies.

Joe, Maggie, Jaclyn, Eden
Saying sorry for your loss just doesn't seem enough.
Losing a son, brother, brother-in-law, nephew is particularly harsh in addition to all the other challenges you've been through as a family.
Please feel some comfort in being proud of how strong Jon was and how many lives he touched in a beautiful way in only 41 yearsmuch more than mostI call this a legacy.
You showed amazing strength in your eulogiesI suspect Jon is very proud of your thoughts as you are very proud as his parents.

My heart goes out to Jon's family and friends. Those of us who got to work with him at WBUR over the past few months witnessed his smarts, talent, determination, and good cheer up close- but for way too short a period of time. I regret we couldn't have had the pleasure of his company a lot longer.

To the Albanese family. I had the privilege of working with Jon at WEEI and WRKO for many years. He was outstanding at his job producing Red Sox Baseball and Celtics Basketball. I could always count on him for anything related to these broadcasts and he became a good friend while we worked together. I felt so proud watching him grow into the role and eventually move on to an even bigger and better job with Sirius, managing their PGA channel. Learning about Jon's ailment was shocking and I'm heartbroken that he wasn't able to recover. I will remember him fondly as will all of his friends. He was a terrific colleague and an even better person. He will be sorely missed. My deepest and most sincere condolences to your entire family.

Sharing my condolences with the Albanese family, especially Maggie. Maggie, I remember the stories you would share about Jon during his college and early broadcasting career. He couldn't find better parents than you and Joe to support him as he grew into his jobs. May you two, Jaclyn, and all the Albanese clan be blessed with love and hugs. Vince Keenan

I knew Jon as Bernie when I worked with him both at WRKO and WEEI. I scheduled all the commercials for those stations and worked very closely with him on a daily basis. He LOVED radio. But he loved his family the most and spoke of them often. He always had a great sense of humor and kept life in perspective. Great smile and a wonderful laugh. My hope for the family is to know how much his presence in my life meant to me.
I will miss him.

Jon was a student of mine at Curry College. Not only did he have a passion for radio, but he also had a passion for life. He was always willing to return to Curry to speak to students. His message to them was positive, reflective and encouraging. He will be missed.

Jon was a friend of my son John Michael Boudreau in Melrose growing up, always polite and friendly. I remember when he came to my house for a party and brought me a bouquet of flowers! Such a thoughtful young man even then. My sincere condolences, a parents nightmare to bury their child. Sending a hug for this huge loss, Jeannine Boudreau Holden

So sorry, for your loss. Jon or Bernie, was a great guy and friend. We had worked together at WEEI and I was looking, to a longer time, with him, when he joined WBUR.
He always made me laugh, especially with his facial gestures. Never had the chance to have that dinner we had planned, after work.
I will forever miss him and his "madness".
My prayers go out to you and may Jon forever smile down and keep us all safe, happy and loving.
